We… I mean *I*… 've been busy :D *big happy smile*!
?
Okay, what we… I mean *I*… have for you today is some top-notch tuneage consisting of: a full track and a Teaser Pentagon (yesh, it was going to be a Teaser Square but if two is company and three is a crowd, what do four and five make?)))))
?
TODAY IS A BIG RIFF/MELODIC TRANCYDANCY CELEBRATION!!! So if you like your dance music, uh, trancy and with catchy, Kraft Dinner marries Caviar with a touch of Moet melodies, it's here for YOU!!! (can you tell i'm enthused?)
?
(I really must advocate Cool Whip with strawberries… just had to say that… mmm mmm the bestest!!!)
?
First off the bat we've got "Activ8", which is like a 10-minute sexy beast!! Don't worry, I know what you're thinking… it DOES change up and varies itself as the themes develop, hence the name. There's even a touch of jazz, but not in a jazzy way. Look out for the oblique reference to tranceydance of years past and years present and maybe even years future! Well worth the download. The length is approx. the time it takes me to do several house(y) chores.
?
And now for our Teaser Pentagon:
?
?
"Sisters" - There's a counterpart track to this called "Brothers", go figure huh? Anyway I wanted to make this very lush, soaring, uplifting prog trance (whatever the heck THAT is!). Let's just say it's fun and good to dance to. Simply complex.
?
"Miracles" - I made this track for pre-lovemaking bliss if you're going to have a baby. No kidding. Really, no kidding. I do things like this. I think babies are miracles, and since we were all babies at one point in time, it makes sense, right? I also believe there are many daily miracles all over the world, or from a humanist standpoint — things you rationally should not take for granted because the universe heads towards entropy. Appreciate it all because there is really SO much pain and suffering in the world and please, please don't waste your precious time & energy on things that get you down (i.e. Internet message board flamewars, seen one too many of them in my time). And if you're not going to have a baby, it's okay, lovemaking and loving yourself are miracles too. Really.
?
"The House of Techno" - Self-explanatory in some ways. I have active technopolitical views. Quite frankly, I think there are a lot of redundant hypocrisy and contradictions within the world of Electronic Dance Music. I welcome some of the contradictions, not so much the hypocrisy. If we are to move forward in sound, how can we hold anything back? Anyway, there's *unfortunately* a lot of this and what I'll call "digital wankery" scaring off newbies (which I warmly welcome to the world) and the jadedness is yuck… and WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO PLUR(R)? So this track is about uniting what has been divided. I love diversity (still do) and variety is the spice of life, so spice it up. As my brother Zephos would say, "spicy girl!"
?
"The Promise" - Is about a promise I made to someone. I wanted a gentle, memorable melody, a more rock-style beat but processed digitally, and a few other video gamey touches. I got what I wanted. Although this is not?trance per se, it does have a sort of hypnotic, pulsating feel :D
?
"Trans" - winding things down with a beatless, lush, ambient soundscape, it's got this very warm loving feel like holding onto your Mom and Dad when you're a tot… I named this as such because I wanted to get a feeling ACROSS. Mwa ha ha.
?
?
Whew, typing. There ya go. Enjoy, if my music makes your day a little more fun and puts a smile on your face, FANTASTICO — 'cause that's what it's for, baby!
?
Coming next after next?? More proghouseyness mixed with a touch of ass, uh, class? Maybe??? Maybe not?!?
?
Back to the workshop . . .

It's Breakbeat Day!

Up for your listening pleasure today are 3 breakbeat track MP3s! (Yes, I was tired of 4-on-the-floor for awhile too… actually, not really… but you get the idea… or not… wow was that ambiguous or what? ;) )
?
Since variety is the spice of life, here goes . . .
?
"Step Forward" is a tuff, chunky sorta rocky breaks roller, featuring the sound of my CD burner being ready. Really. (Yes, that's trivial.) Towards the end it builds up,?integrates a techy riff, and winds down.
?
"Play That Beat!" is good, funky –?you might even say plump and/or phatty?fun. A pointed 80's crystalline riff dances around more oblique references to a good time on the dance floor. Check out that descending chromatic bassline, woohoo! Turn this one UP with the big bass for maximum effect.
?
"prototypical" is so-called because of its unfinished, rawish nature. But it sounds better this way, trust me. :D

NEW MP3 - troit.mp3

Hey, I just put a new MP3 up. It's called "Troit" and it's a simple, energetic mini-tip of the top hat to techno pioneers of years past (this might be quasi-obvious from the name). It's maximal in a minimal way.
?
?
Yes, it has that Torley touch all over it ;)
?
Hope ya dig it.

heroes and villains of the electronic sound

Not that I think the Title has anything to do with this entry.
?
Just added a link to Paul & Dana's blog. They are significant to me. They are newlyweds (sort of in the Nick & Jessica sense), and a very cute couple. Paul is one of my good, good friends going back to Sunday School (yes, that good, LOL) and I got to know Dana more recently.?Combined, the two of them are an aesthetic powerhouse.?They are there for me in some very tough times in my life, and hey, you know what, they also have a blog. I?can say that Paul & Dana are really good human beings. :)
?
Another good human being, although fictional, is Amelie, from the movie of the same name. People have compared me to a male version of her and I hadn't seen the movie yet, so when I did so recently, I was delighted and not at all surprised. Amelie is definitely enlightening.
?
Supposedly the Beatles have "love" more than any other word in their songs. That's… lovely.

when is progressive… regressive?

Just an innocent question (so I hope). I am specifically referring to "progressive" electronic music and some of my internal frustrations with the redundant attitudes contained within. An opposing school of thought to mine supposedly says they want the music to go forward, but at the same berating and verbally punishing those who DO sound different. To a point I'm beginning to believe it's more about human psychological trickery than the actual music and personalities (producing and DJing) the music involved.
?
I'd have to say my line of thought is parallel with the public views of?greats (I sure make them sound like baseball players, don't they) like James Holden and Luke Chable. I stand up and applaud these guys (and I do wish there were more girls) for enjoying what they do and doing what they enjoy.
?
I'm sometimes an observer; sometimes a participant. I observe these things and know them (for the most part) to be true.
?
Right now I'm downloading the SNL episode that aired earlier this season with Donald Trump hosting. I'm a big fan of The Donald — yes, that includes The Apprentice — and I am looking forward to his "Trumped!" radio commentary come this summer. I realize the bits will be short but coming from such a man, they will definitely be sweet.
?
Also recently did some posting on some forums; I'm a busy guy but I like to contribute and chime in and help when I can. Good stuff.
?
(As I should state the obvious for my own bemused benefit, this is my first blog entry on here. Still very experimental, so let's see how it goes. My memory seems to be collapsing inwardly again so I suppose I will be referring to notes here time and time again if I forget something that might be semi-important.)
?
A short list (by no means complete) of great, great human beings I look up to, all of them celebrities in their own way:
?
-Alvin Toffler
-Michio Kaku
-Sasha Cohen
-Donald Trump
-Britney Spears
-Emma Caulfield
-Amber Tamblyn
-Brian Transeau
-Richard Hall
-Sunrise Adams
-Hayao Miyazaki
-Tom Green
-Stephen King
-Warren Spector
?
All of them, to my knowledge, are alive. As for the sadly deceased, I count my father and Isaac Asimov in there (I never thought I'd be saying *that* a couple of years ago!).
?
Almost 3 AM. Going to bed soon. I should start my days earlier, like The Donald. But I'm such a night owl and so many people I have to talk to from the other side of the world at this hour.

A-Co, aka Sasha Cohen

That's truely poetry in motion (cliched, I know, yes… but TRUE :D). Sasha Cohen is a wonderful skater. I don't know much about the technical aspects of skating, although I know it must take many hours and accumulated years of dedication to it as well as many hard and painful falls on the ice to succeed on a level that Sasha has. In addition, she seems to be a wonderfully nice person, so I must say I am a fan. Her journal entries on her official site are fun to read, and the SashaFans forums are a real dig too — almost everyone there is so friendly, unlike the vitriolic atmosphere of some forums. Arjjj.

Oh, now I'm disappointed. Read rumors of a third Deus Ex game. I don't play computer games all that much but at first I was thrilled to hear about this — however, now I read that it's going to be a multiplayer Clan Wars type game. Just not my type of game; I was hoping for an immense and involving interactive type of multiplayer experience. Oh well, on the bright side, I would not have a lot of time for that anyway, and yes that's my sour grapes speaking. Still love the first game; and the second one, while still good, didn't match the bar. But, I look forward to see what happens next in the storyline. It is so rich and involving yet easy to get into, like Kraft Dinner & Caviar (two of my favorites which I've never had at the same time before… someday I must!).
?
In the Technoverse, BT and Ashley just had a baby daughter, Orbital have announced their retirement… Prodigy's 4th long-player is nowhere in sight . . . what is going on here? Call me wildly optimistic but I think there are some most excellent opportunities opening up in the sonic skies ahead and it's like the tectonic plates shifting. And yes, I still listen to Nu-Skool Breakz, as "passe" as the name/spelling of the name may be.

Asperger's Syndrome

And now a word about Asperger's Syndrome. I know, it sounds like such a horrible thing by the name alone doesn't it? But really, apart from the constant oddities and inconveniences along the way, I've been able to be pretty thankful for a good life overall. I am self-diagnosed at this point but I have not been able to find another "neat" medical or scientific explanation for why I am the way I am — at least, a large part of me.
?
Life makes more sense now. It's like… AHA… and no it's not an excuse for me to be rude to others (even when I don't know I am being rude). In fact, I am trying to learn more and be a better human being. Doesn't that sound wholesome?
?
This is a very informative link!
?
You can expect me to write more about it and my unusual experiences in this world, as I can only speak for myself. But let's just say as much as I've always wanted to fit in, something about me has always made me jut out and I have decided over the last few years to embrace this instead of repressing it. I have done many socially unacceptable things which seemed embarassing at the time, but now maybe I can have more of a laugh about it. It doesn't make much sense if you weren't there at the time, but my good?friends know what's up with me and I thank them for their understanding despite my craaazy obsessions and my compulsions and routines :). But really, I am a friendly guy (except when it comes to badly cut watermelons in '02 and people making fun of Ally McBeal in '97 etc.), and, to cop an alien saying, "I come in peace". That can be interpreted in more than one way!

A few CO's (Current Obsessions [things not people]), and then I sleep :) Yes, I know, I'm staying up wayyy too late/early.
?
?
MUSIC: Deus Ex: Invisible War Soundtrack, get it free from the Downloads section
also, honorable mention goes to the Tangerine Dream - Dream Sequence album. Beautiful ambient if it ever existed. Of course, THEY are the masters. ;)
?
HAIRSTYLE: Not sure what the name is but the "flippy" look on women that looks flicked by the wind and airblown of some sort. Sort of short, sort of long.?Hawt.
?
FOOD: Gotta be KD ;) And soon, strawberries with whipped cream as soon as I get ahold of some Cool Whip.
?
BOOK: Two, How To Get Rich by Donald J. Trump and The Food Connection by Sam Graci (currently reading)
?
HAIR ORNAMENT: Gunmetal tiara on girls. Wait, does something this grand even qualify as a hair ornament? In any case, I regard it as all the regality of a crown — without the extra weight!
?
TV: Joan of Arcadia. I hardly watch TV but I get these eppies through the Net. Here's to hoping some of my "predictions" for the end of this season and beginning of the next come true. I can't wait to see God appear as twins! Whee.
?
WORD: Still "redundant". Which is ironic if you think about it. :D
?
?
Good nite.
