Triumph of the art: Watermelinden Land in The Linden Village!

Long-overdue but much needed, I created a building in a day. (I hesitate to call it a house, or even a home, for it's not been lived in yet.) This happens to be the funky — a word I've been using more — pad known as, or at least is part of, Watermelinden Land. While I can't attest to having amusing rides like ol' Walt did, I hope your eyes will get a workout!

Oh, and ears too. As I often do, if I don't find an existing solution, I'll do it myself. That's part of my prosumer thrust (still reading the Tofflers' Revolutionary Wealth). Before we go further, here, have a listen to what it sounds like around Watermelinden Land:

Nifty huh? As noted previously, I used Storm Thunders' Sound Prims. I just recorded my sonic environment as I walked around from the shore to up atop my castle. And it can be a castle, 'cause it's at least a room. As Mickey Mouse boasted on a light-switch cover, "My Room is My Castle". He got that right!

Thanx graciously to each and everyone who's come over and visited so far; pardon me for not being the most chatty while I was building. What was awesome was I got to meet some avatars who I'd only previously exchanged with on the web, e.g., email and blog comments. Like Grizzy Griswold, Aster Lardner (who made this kewl "Abalone Geekwear" art), Dimitrio Lewis, and Rainbow Drake! As I write this, Erbo Evans showed up!

Erbo Evans visits Watermelinden LandHi again Erbo Evans!

(How's that for liveblogging?)

For the first time, I also met Pi Brevity, Eoin Widget, ee Aero, and s'more. And of course, fellow Lindens showed up, like Lawrence — who lives right next to me, MichaelFrancis, and Milo.

What's important here is personal connections: Watermelinden Land is part of the Linden Village, which is expanding after Pathfinder Linden took the initiative. More Lindens are moving in, and it stretches from Ambleside (the original site), to Hawkshead, to Grasmere where I am.

Looks like my parcel description isn't updating rite now, but it's supposed to say:

for you, I have *huggerz* and free textures and much to show. So plz come visit :) =^_^= _keywords_: watermelon YAYZERAMA!!!!

Fun!

Past this:

  1. I wish I had started taking pictures earlier to show you more of the process. The theme I'm going for is sort of "the top of a clocktower got ripped off" meets "Greco-Roman bastard joy". On that front, crossed with watermelons 'course, I believe I succeeded. I might wanna put in s'more grit, and I didn't really use any fancy shadowing techniques… still open to those.

  2. Watermelinden Land 35Watermelinden Land 32I love putting theory into practice. I got to play with particles, and quickly changed them to use a texture I made called "Sketchy Watermelon". I want to make it really really to get freebies I make, so when I was stumped for what to put in front, well, my Torley Textures display worked nicely.

  3. Watermelinden Land 58Inside, I've added a few weblinks to my blog, multimedia, etc. I'm pondering what else I could showcase and increase awareness of that would enrich minds and induce smiles. This is a happy place to be.

  4. OK there's not really a "4" but it's my lucky number. So there! ;)

I'm really enthused about Watermelinden Land and hope you'll come visit me (I should prolly set up a better "meeting area" too). I haven't been on a creative kick like this since, well, making my "TORLEY LINDEN bare". Which, you can get, BTW, by clicking him atop the flagpole…

FYI, I noticed a bug where after you get it, rez it, and mouseover on any prim other than the root (parent) prim, it'll still show the green L$ icon to buy. Workaround:

  • Right-click it
  • Edit tools > General tab
  • Check then uncheck "For Sale"

I'll report that issue; in the meantime, I'd better let you know that me being "a lightning rod for bugs" means I empirically ran into a half-dozen building bugs and counting. They're on my to-do after the holiday weekend! Goes to show how mixed up Second Life is for me in work + play. =))

And if it isn't OBVIOUS already, it should be: Lindens shouldn't be all invisible and unknown. There is talk of us eating animal food: dog, cat, etc. Speaking of food, like soylent green, Second Life is made of people, and Lindens are people too. So come on by to the Linden Village and check out everyone's personality — and if you haven't yet, I hope you meet at least one real live Linden!

Relaxin' at my new pad…

You don't see me, that's because I've pointed the camera at my new custom turntable. It was caringly made by Menno Ophelia, who's off adventuring in Asia (in First Life). I really dig how he put my name in a scripty sorta font… very, *very* funky.

This turntable intermittently plays music clips of me on the piano, mellotron, and drums. Simple, earnest fun. I was able to do this thanx to the Sound Prims made by Storm Thunders, which made a dream of mine come true. (Idea: maybe I should put a showcase bay for inventions I've found useful + kewl?) I've also included environmental ambience here, including wind, water, and vinyl.

Yummy watermelons by Phyzz FIzz. :)
