Wondering about how to use fresh new features in Second Life 1.21? What about time-honored techniques that are still relevant to this day? Or "featurettes" you'll benefit from, once you know about them?
I've got just the thing, fast 'n' easy videos to teach you:
- Free yourself from a trap - When in doubt, teleport away!
- Give inventory through Instant Message sessions - Has the added benefit of letting you drag-and-drop multiple inventory items.
- Inventory goes to Trash when you're Busy - No! It's not gone! Just… fish it out.
- Land terraform strength - Gives you more control over shaping your terrain like clay.
- Moderate group voice & text chat - Block troublemakers! Hold civilized discussions!
- Move contents from one object to another - Workaround for a kinda clunky process.
- Script editor featurettes - Multiple-line identing, dynamic help lookup, and more!
- Sit down to stop being pushed - One of those "Second Life you must knows".
- Turn off the typing animation - This used to be harder. Now, it's a simple Preferences option.
Remember!
- Be sure to visit our Knowledge Base for more learnage!
- Easy link to ALL the videos — share with friends: secondlife.com/video
- You can also subscribe to RSS feed (MP4 links are high-quality downloads) or browse in iTunes store
I love to hear from you, so if you have curiosities, send me a direct message.

Wow, I didn't know you had submitted the SL video feed to the iTunes Store! Very cool. Thank You!
While your videos are always helpful, the Script editor featurettes video was wonderful - I did NOT know that clicking a function in a script could take me to the appropriate wiki page in the browser using the wiki help feature! OMG, how much time have I wasted looking things up the old way already??? You have amplified my awesome today for sure!
im in the picture! whahay! (im the sillhouette guy in the gray jacket). the girl that looks like me is a friend that has a Av envy problem. she wants whatever someone near here has, so now she's looking for a little car like torleys!
@Sahoni: Yes! It's actually a replacement for an older feed which wasn't so easy to update. But since this reads off of blip.tv, it auto-updates with new videos.
@Ghosty: Thanx to Gally Young for encouraging me — in Gally's words, "drag my attention" — to spread the word about that! *amplifes your awesome MOAR*
@alteran: Thanx for coming to my office hour! My little car and cel-shaded avatar are made by milki Unknown. They're "Chibi Racers" and she has a line of them!
Thank you for the give inventory through IMs .. I have been in SL a year and didnt know this! thats really awesome thank you!
You're SO welcome Natasiaa! That's actually a NEW feature in Second Life 1.21 and onwards. ^_^
thanks torley you are the man, if you turn off the typing ao, does it still play the little chat noise so people know that you are typing? because when you are roleplaying that noise comes in handy so people know whos going to talk next
@jonn: It turns the sound off. If you want to keep the sound on, I suggest finding a typing overrider gadget so your typing animation is changed/suppressed but you still get an audio cue.
Torley - I love your helpful SL videos. They have done more for me than any other kind of SL info. I would like VERY MUCH to download your videos directly on to my hard drive and have not been able to find out how to do it. (Only by accident I have brought one onto it - your Fringe music [love, love, love it! - you must be a genius.]) I have an IMac 10.5.5. Please help me. I would be so grateful. -Asher
@Asher: up in this post there is a "browse in iTunes" link, click it and it will open the podcast series in iTunes for you, you can then click the "subscribe" button in iTunes (next to the Second Life logo picture). In iTunes you can download the videos you want or you can get all videos.
Brilliant!!
I had no idea who to video in SL, I'm going to have lots of fun with this. Thanks Torley
