A night out at the SLinema
Posted on: September 18, 2005
SLinema being no worse a portmanteau than "machinina", and possibly factors more pleasing. I started a post on the SL Forums, aptly titled:
Pretty self-explanatory! Gosh, the craziest things happen. See, in addition to the actual spectacle of watching movies in SL, I had problems streaming (part of the prob is because SL doesn't have buffering indicators or progress bars to indicate when its built-in QuickTime support is loading). And then, after some looking around, I got the direct download links. If you're not in Second Life but wanna watch the movies to see what, aye, this world is all about, then check out the quintet of nominees!

I stress, I stress that this is far from all the names involved in the making, including whole teams and what you might call avactors?and gosh Matt's name is spelled wrong?but it shows a promising glimpse into the sheer pleasure to be had in SL. Credits roll, smiles unfold.![]()
And then . . . the vote machine broke, like twice! Hamlet Linden was using ye olde VoteMaster, 2003 A.D.-model (reportedly from the beta days of yore) and it crashed all ugly towards 150 votes total. Just went clunk-clunk-kerchunk and froze colder than an ice age in winter. (It was a disgrace so I buried it in a black box.)
Even more cool than that, following some squirrely scurrying, was finding Max Case to come up with a customized new VoteMaster 5000 that would drive this starship. In the midst of the panic (who wants another Florida recall?), Max kept saying how much he likes fixing things as he drank his coffee, and later, tea. He previously made the voting machine for the Extraordinary Avatar Expo with 50 entries (or entrees? They're so tasty!) so this was a matter of him scaling some things down, including 10 votes/Resi turned into 2 per… per Hamlet's wishes!
Hung out with Max, watched him work his magic, now the voting box is in Linden hands and the show must go on!
Heck, why wasn't there a documentarian onsite to make a trailer about this?
