A question of focus for *you*

Posted on: July 28, 2008

And not an easy one to ask, but because I value your opinion, it must be done:

If I were to focus further on a specific subject so my personal blog is more useful + fun for you, what would it be?

Free answers in comments graciously appreciated; I know I didn’t set this up as a multiple-choice poll, but I’m curious to hear what you think all the same.

I really like how it is now… you never really know ahead of time what you're gonna get. I like reading about the things You find interesting… even if it's just a thought or a wonder.

    Mahalo and watermelons,

  2. Joga Luce Says:

The only thing that could make it better is if I had more time to read it!

Torley, please don't give up your spontaneity !! It's what makes you you and it's what you do best above all else. You have a structured "fun & helpful" time in your videos now that they are well … more corporate. And, personally, I don't find them as fun … as … Welll … to me … the new vids don't make me say "Torley is having an Amazing carefree time of exploring and sharing his love of it all with wild abandon! Can I do that?!"

So … please … stay completely and total you, here. Spontaneously!

    enjoy have fun

Okay and I don't mean that in any sort of mean way … all I'm saying is that it feels like the corporation is mucking around with your art and it's coming out well … mucked up … ok "canned" "programmed" … but I don't think everyone will feel that way or sense that … it's entirely possible that I'm the only one who feels it …

alright … well … I'm just going to leave this can of worms sitting right here.

    hugs,
    marilla

I have to agree with the previous commenters. Your blog is a joyful surprise everytime I land here. I wouldn't change a thing!

  6. Diana Allandale Says:

Above commenters used the word "spontaneity", I think I'd use the words "prolific" and "varied." :) To be honest, one of the reasons I check your site on a regular basis is precisely because its so varied. I will ALWAYS learn something new or find an interesting tidbit I missed on previous visits. LOL I really have thought you were already channelling my thoughts because is seems I come up with a question, go to your blog, and viola! The answer's already here somewhere!

Sorry I'm no help in determining the future. The present already fits my needs!

I suppose that if there were one thing I respond to most in your posts here, it is your travel ventures, but this whole melting pot is what gives it spice and I would hate to think of tying you down to one subject, Torley!

  8. Russell Says:

Torley, first of all, it is so much fun that you share a bit of yourself with me. You bring a smile to my face so often. So now you ask your fans' suggestions? Do I dare to taint what so many, including myself, obviously enjoy? Yea! This almost feels like a genie is granting me a wish!!

Hmm….. this may be too much to ask…. make an Amplifying Awesome Documentary!!!!

I don't know exactly what it might be about: Second Life?? New Technology?? Watermelons?? All three?!?

I'd buy the DVD for sure. The one thing I am enthralled about your videos is their energizing pace that makes me feel like everything else is in slow motion after I finish watching them! Imagine a whole documentary!

  9. Kohana Schimmer Says:

Three cheers for Torley… hip hip hooray! WE all love you 'as is'… the surprise element is so addictive and worth while, please keep us in suspense until we receive your next 'pearl of wisdom'… Step in Sunshine!

To chime in on the same note as everyone else, I love the variety that I get when I check the site and wouldn't want it to lose any portion of that fun in order to achieve any sort of focus. The only side note that I'd mention is that it'd be nice if you could occasionally bring back the reviews of your own music.

Torley, I look forward to your site as much as I do my morning chai. I love your style and the way you express yourself here. You are as entertaining in the way that Freakonomics makes me think and laugh at the same time. I vote that you just do your thing the way you do. It makes me smile :)

  12. Lorimae Undercroft Says:

    Just keep being you :)

  13. Eddie Hagoromo Says:

More Torley and his adventures of some lesser known high quality sims around SL! You travel to some of the best places and would be great to know how to explore these new, unique and fun places!
And keep up the great work on what you are doing, you are making Second Life a very happy place for us all to be in! :D

  14. Dizzy Banjo Says:

Ah Torley! Well, I think your focus is pretty good really -
AWESOMENESS is a great focus !
for me that equates to creativity and expression..
Ive really loved the tutorials you have done recently which show many ways of creating content that feeds into SL..

  15. xanna ziskey Says:

I did not want to simply add to the cheerleading. I really pondered the question, but I'm coming up empty. I think any change might be a mistake. Keep on keeping on. You change things up enough on a daily basis. Keep the tutorials short and on a specific task, as you do. Follow your heart, as you do. Don't scare us with this silly talk of specifying and such. Be Torley! Watermelons forever!

  16. Nisei Oh Says:

First of all…sorry for my english !
Torley i really love your web! I hope to meet you sometime in-world!!! ^^
Well i think SL is the first metaverse now, i have been in 'There', 'active worlds', 'lively', etc.. but the most powerful continues being SL.
People use to compare with online games like WoW, but as we know ..is not the same, and is not a game (sometimes ;-).
Much people who log first time into SL says "What can i do here?" or "If is a game…what i must do to play?", and when they spend a few hours (or days) and they don't know how to do, they left SL forever. Use to be people who dont have any computing skills. That is bad for Second Life!
Well the answer to this problem could be in different ways:
    - A most friendly and easy version of the Client software with a lot of help for newbies (leaving a full version for creators/builders/advanced users).
    - Learn Mentors "how to learn people to live they Second Lifes".
    - etc…

Well i don't know if this is the place to talk about these topics…
but i think you have one of the best sites about Second Life.
    Thanks Torley!

  17. ihavenomouth Says:

I hope you don't switch to only focusing on one topic. That seems so limiting. I like reading your blog mostly because the topics -are- so varied.

  18. Torley Says:

THANKS TO EACH & ALL FOR SHARING! I really, really appreciate.

The general impression I get is "keep being me" and that means a lot of spontaneity & diversity. I'll do that, then!

I eventually would like to do more videos not just about how-to activities in Second Life (and elsewhere), but sharing my creative inspirations.

In the meantime, I'll keep amplifying your awesome. :D
