A great story from Wired NextFest last year:
Hansen Robotics out of TX makes lifelike robots with some AI abilities; the first robot prototype was a Philip K. Dick robot head. When the company was first getting started David Hansen was working long hours without sleep before his first big demo, ending days of work with a long flight where he put the finished PKD head in the overhead compartment of the plane.
Hansen woke up, got off the plane and forgot his PKD head, valued at over $100,000. His entire company on the line, he searched everywhere for his missing DickHead. While Hansen Robotics is now successfully building lifelike robots, the PKD head was never found! Perhaps DickHead is now flying high above us, piloting our planes with the help of some human hands….or perhaps PKD is the new Christ, riding from the robot dead to ascend to his rightful place as chief inspirator.
Thanks for this tribute.
@inKenzo: That's a fave story of mine. I do wonder where said DickHead has gone.
@dandellion: You're welcome.
