I was going to end it here for the night but this nagged me: pardon if it's seemed I haven't been that active on my personal blog. It's fact. I've been contributing to various other awesome blogs including Smashing Magazine and Wise Bread… did you see my articles on great ASCII art and Amazon's Frustration-Free Packaging?
I keep myself busy or else I get deathly bored. And you don't want a bored Torley.
Sometimes, I've started an article here, only to feel it'd be more broadly read there (and I'd get paid). I can only confess my human urges to feel rewarded for what I've done; after all, why put in the effort if there's silence at the end? Please get me right: I find delight in your comments here, or wherever I go, and that's a simple truth.
I like to be accessible, yet I need to "tune" the info-overload. (Saying influenced by Sally Linden.)
I've been keeping a little Tumblr "tumblelog" to quickly clip ideas I think are worth passing on. Or stuff I don't have time to get to at the moment but want to watch later. (I'm not the kind of chap who spends my worktime yukking it up to YouTube!) But I find Tumblr too limiting, and so, I think I'll keep this blog as long as it continues to be useful. Having both is nice, like pets I suppose.
At Linden Lab, new blogs are forthcoming to replace this and I'm SO very anxious. Expect to see less "SL Tips & Tricks" here and lots more there, because (1) it's OFFICIAL OMG and (2) that's going to be the focus of our Documentation Team's group blog. (It makes it easier to carry content with colleagues, too.) When? I don't have exact dates but as I've always promised, if I can share, I will. Time willing.
Until then, let me be clear: your input isn't just valuable, it can be what helps us continue on. You can reach me in comments here (I reply regularly… history shows this), my contact form, or on Twitter. Places I use best for now. I continue to lament over how time-consuming IMs and notecards are to manage inworld, so don't send me those. I maintain Facebook and MySpace profiles, but don't really keep up with them. Go to the right places so I may be surprised by your insight. Thank-you.
Now… a confession.
I sometimes get very self-conscious that I'm not communicative enough. Not only is it sufficient to be a good communicator, you must be seen, heard, understood. Which drives my personality… an entertaining person is far more memorable than a dullsack.
You might even say… vulnerability (not insecurity) is the new strength.
I also get bored talking the same way all the time, so while there are expected habits — I'm an uplifter, not a put-you-downer — I adapt to different modes and styles of prose. (More on this later, maybe.)
So, some thoughts. Human ones. Didn't want to not let you know. You know.

There's a thing that I've noticed which I belive is a hang-over from old media where you'd switch on and veg in front of and that would be that.
A lot of people will read what we write, but won't reply. I'm not sure if they're shy, or can't be bothered, or might think others will think they're idiots.
I know people read my stuff but rarely comment.
When I was in community radio, I'd often wonder if anyone was listening, they often were but wouldn't phone and say Hi.
I crave a two-way internet.
Wolfie!
Hi Torley.. its always good to know you are out there, working for the residents and definitely uplifting. I miss the tips of the week very much. I miss the SL official blog too. I find it hard to feed back on no feed. I guess a lot my the time is spent inworld, busy busy, it was always good to see the links to your tips and the blog posts on the login page. Alas the day…
You are appreciated… dont ever think differently.

@Wolfie: I've heard varying anecdotes of "Commenter ratio" but it's really content and volume-dependent — which is another way to say "quality in quantity", I suppose.
I see myself as not just a surfer but a community participator, so I'm with you there!
@Imogen: I'm glad you spoke out about this. TIPS AND TRICKS ARE COMING BACK! There's a new Linden blog on the way, I'm collaborating with Documentation Team on our own section which is all about useful + fun knowledge. And of course, videos too.
Hope you're having fun inworld, tell me what you've been enjoying!
I am always interested in what you have to say even though I have been guilty of not posting any comments…I also enjoy the tutorials on Utube that are very helpful and inspiring…these are very appreciated also. Thanks Torley!
@Inflame: Quite alright! But now that you've posted, I know you read. So I appreciate you taking the time. ^_^
