Avatars unlimited – new Torley Council members

2007-02-11

I've been blessed recently on two avatar-related fronts:

  1. Being gifted by talented creators.
  2. Finding the time to customize.

So, we have some new additions to the Torley Council…

First up, WATERMELON SPAWN OF SOTEK!

The animation when he's (loosely — at this point, pronouns are committing seppuku around me) in flight is amazingly fluid: I feel like I have my own mini-Neverending Story. The tongue flicks and the textures — particularly the feathers, modelled after the seedy innards of a 'melon — are delish. Thanx to Flea Bussy and Psyra Extraordinaire for this awesome art! And with that, we have an Aztec ambassador.

Donmai Frederick, who also makes machinima, created a train av which may look familiar if you've seen a certain kid's show; I couldn't resist but contact him and ask him for a moddable version. I bet he's from Shining Rind Station. ;)

MELONZILLA (primary avatar on my Torley Tester account) as made by milki Unknown got a nice new hat, made by Kai Sion. Part of a classic collection. Keeps his ears warm.

A wall of Classic Hats by Kai Sion

Not strictly an avatar, since Torley Jr. was envious of MELONZILLA's pimped-out ride, elleair Plasma made me a car which brings up the immortal eat-or-drive dilemma. It's eco-friendly.

Hydrogen Excelsior, according to Detect Surface, has taken to prims like a dog to toilet paper. He made this robotic exoskeleton avatar consisting of 900+ prims in 2 days, which I've recolored and dubbed "the Watermelonator". And yes, the shiny has subtle textures — just the way I like it.

You can see even more detail in wireframe:

I finally got to wear the doll avatar made by Zoe Llewelyn that I acquired sometime ago. Exceptional detail. I feel like a character out of The Diamond Age!

Finally (for now), Memnoch Matzerath made wicked use of my Torley Textures and turned me into a funky watermelon tarantula.

I couldn't help but scurry around inworld to the tune of Pendulum's massive d 'n' b smasher of the same name:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

A central part of my joy of being in Second Life has long been able to combine my passions with the unique style of our artistic talents, including the aforementioned. The watermelon colors of pink (sometimes purple), green, and black have been the threads that connect these, surely and securely. Looking back, I'm tremendously thankful for all the help I've gotten over the last couple of years, because in turn, it's helped me to understand how we choose to represent ourselves — even if it's in a great many ways!

Torley,
with so many different appearances you either need to:

- file for a revision of String Theory so that we can write (time+n)(time)(time-n), effectively triplying your work hours (Phil may be happy, finance maybe not)
- set up an avatar showcase gallery that anybody can visit
- set up guidelines for an open-sourced franchise chain

For more on the good and bad of tripified time dimensions:

- (t+n)(t-n), by Robert Silverberg, available from Harper & Row
- (slightly more tech) DeWitt’s many worlds papers as explained at Stanford where his works are mainstream http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/qm-manyworlds/
- (and with equations included) http://arxiv.org/pdf/hep-th/9511109

Hint: Silverberg was the only one to devise a method to make money out of a day as long as half a week until…

Maybe I need to post on my blog the members of the "Grizzy Council" of course giving you credit for the idea.

In addition to the red haired woman that is my usual appearance in world. I am sometimes a little house cat (non-anthropomorphized), a tiny red bird, a tiny blue dragon, a huge black grizzly bear, and on very very very rare occasions, the rl version of me. RL me doesn't come into sl very often since I am him all the time in rl. Also the fact that RL me is rarely seen in SL makes me tend to be not quite as hard on the pronouns as you are, though I do tend to hurt them as well.

starcomber, awhile ago I remember Huns Valen set up an awesome holographic display at Hamlet Au's (then-Linden) Avatar Expo. In part because we don't have stock "dummies" we can place around, and also because… lotsa prims to exhibit. You're right, I do need to diversity and expand further. Some of these intriguing projects… if only I had more time, and across the universes as you point out, more clones!

Grizzy, now this is good, I've learned more about your Grizzy Council! Awesome! You know what, I relate to "RL me doesn’t come into sl very often since I am him all the time in rl." It's like, "I know him enough, let's experience new mes!" Let me know if you do post about it. :)
