Posted on: April 26, 2006I've been shuffling up some things behind-the-scenes to improve my blog. You may have noticed that commenting on an entry bounces it to the top, not unlike certain forum threads.
While this is kind of unorthodox, maybe it'll prove to be a useful experiment like using big, pixellated fonts for datelines—something that's become a joy of mine.
Also, I recently signed up with Feedburner to get a prettier RSS feed. Syndication is important and all that; they have pretty nice design that isn't so Arial-dependent.
It intrigues me how it provides sort of an alternate, more ordinary (which isn't all that bad) look at my blog. When I started this blog, it actually had more emphasis on primary colors, but over time has focused on my favored pink-and-green.
Tagcloud also looks interesting—alas, I've not gotten it to work properly yet, as it's still showing my cloud as empty despite numerous entries I published yesterday. Perhaps I'll have to write some more. Tagclouds are one of those things which puff up, can grow audaciously messy, but then sort themselves out with prolonged usage. In any case, it'll be fun.
I wasted a lot of time with Network Solutions, who I've been with since '99, way too expensive,
because I want to get this blog working on my own domain, torley.com, without the framing trick I've used so long. Benefits are numerous. For example, I'd be able to link to an entry without the long "torley.blog-city.com" in front, simply "torley". And, to my pleasant surprise, I was able to transfer to a new registrar, GoDaddy, in less than a day. Now comes the waiting period of waiting DNS to propagate.
I'm always looking for ways to make life easier. I read Lifehacker regularly, it's really refreshing. Today was a distracting day, tho: there's a lot of things I wanted to do which are left as loose ends for tomorrow (or technically, still "today").

All of this relates to my professional work as Torley Linden. Might not be immediately apparent, but experience leads the way. I'm quickly becoming known as an "enduser Linden", approaching Second Life with many the foisting foibles as a new Resi might. Even in my "advanced avatar age",
I find myself stumbling into many common problems. It's odd, even with all my inworld time, but that's who I am.
I'm a magnet for chaos and being fed weird things. I sometimes wonder what it'd be like to have a more tranquil existence, but you don't get a smoothie without being blended. Often in my sentences, I'll lead off on lateral tangents which have no immediate meaning to most people, but maybe in a week, month, year, it'll head back in a more commonly-understood way. It tends to cause initial confusion before I go, "Wait, there's more!" or "This tail belongs to a bigger dragon!" Ah, this makes sense.
Just my aura.
O hey, timestamps are now in IMs and Chat History. We recently got transparent shiny (and by extension, simulated translucent aluminium) at last. Group tool overhauls aren't too far away, and neither is a better help and support system, which I'm involved in. Hopefully it'll be easier to take snapshots without HUDs appearing, and the long-awaited llTeleportAgent will induce a lot of enthusiasm. My coworkers are doing wondrous things. Play with Second Life Preview 1.9.1.14 which was just released yesterday!
