Time doesn't only fly, it teleports! Just one week until Second Life's 3rd Birthday on Friday, June 23, 2006—the centerpiece of more marvelous happenings surrounding what's set to happen. Straight from the blogs of some of the Residents actively making the magic work:
- Momma Tateru Nino, uberorganizer of the shebang, has been blogging regularly about bumps—not all of them obstacles, but fascinating nonetheless—we've hit along the way. Recently, we had terrain that stuck out like a sore thumb. One of the limits of the current system: you can crossfade between terrain texture swatches on a single region, but not across them.
- Mera Pixel, building overseer, has a fab "Recent Stuff" entry in which she has a lot of great snapz of works-in-progress. It's coming along beautifully, and of course, looks even more glorious in 3D. I've been down to visit the site several times, and it's looking wonderful.
- Movie maven Tao Takashi, in addition to schedule-planning, has been putting up shots on his Flickr account including bringing a certain golden egg (and what goose hath laid that?) to life. This retouched photo—if only this was the "raw" view inworld—is freakin' awesome:
(There's this monochromatic starkness in the background, giving way to the sheer lustrous sheen in the foreground. Again, I must say how much those candles remind me of Olympic torches—in a totally triumphant, most excellent way.)
I've been strolling around the birthday grounds myself, accumulating photos of my own. My photos, and others, are all tagged as "third birthday" in Snapzilla. Someday, this'll all be a memory—something to look back at, yet forward to at the same time… speaking of, while I've been pinched for time, I want to delve in deeper this weekend. I can't give enough thanx to all who've contributed thus far, and hey, time's-a-tickin' but it's not too late!
If this intrigues you, get the scoop at the Third Birthday Event page… come, join us, and celebrate the spirit of Second Life!
