bits 'n' bobs

From Doug Linden, I learned of Gliffy—which is a neat, Visio-esque web diagramming proggie. Free too. I never used Visio before, only heard of it, and flowcharts—using stickers out of this spiralled computer fun-book I had when I was a kid—are something I've longed to get back into. I haven't delved deeply, but it's worth a look. And I found out shortly later Gliffy was also mentioned on Lifehacker (they sure trawl in a lot of gems!).

Took a few weeks for this to sink in: I found out Autistic Pride Day is the same day as my birthday, June 18—a bday also shared by Paul McCartney, my fave Beatle. Having Asperger's Syndrome, this is double-meaningful to me, altho at present, I haven't talked much about it publicly, with the notable exception of a recent interview I did with June Peoples (aka Quirky McArdle in Second Life) of The Infinite Mind which I look forward to be showing up soon.

Really cool to see Residents awakening to the added options in the new Snapshot Preview—"Depth capture photos". You can get there by clicking on the "Snapshot" button, then select "Save snapshot to hard drive" and next to where it says "Capture", click the pop-up menu and select "Depth". Pressing "Update Snapshot" will show you what a good time you're in for.

Richard Linden pointed out a really kewl video demo with sounds synced to their respective rendered objects, all vibrating and… physical. Think of dropping a ball bearing in a digital environment and hearing it go clack—clack–clack-clackclackclkckckck. While the vid has no ball bearings, but rather, bunnies, bells, and bouncing dragon—you gotta see it, it's soooo freakin' fun.

I was looking back in the SL forums and found Colin Linden used to do "Top Ten bug reports" when the world was much smaller. Wowza! While I don't do a "top ten" list per se (I have toyed with it), I do enjoy writing about issues that affect the community. I wonder what other gems are in the deep.

Here's an enthusiastic post I made almost a year ago about Second Life Preview 1.7. Why do I bring this up? Keep an eye on "boxhead syndrome". Hint hint.

The Virtual Aloft blog is just such a comfy place to catch up on the fantastic development happening there… hotels are orgasmic. (I really hope they model a prim continental breakfast too, I'd have a bagel!)
