[MUSIC] Collection of beautiful piano on SoundCloud

2009-07-05

One of the great challenges any enterprising musician must figure out is "Where do I put my music online?" There are sites that come and go, all competing (or trying to) for your attention. I've found comfort in SoundCloud and BandCamp — both of them allow you to upload uncompressed WAVE files and do the encoding for you, saving some steps (I'm a big fan of sensible automation!). The former is geared more towards forming an onsite community, in part due to how they let you insert timed comments in tracks (great for calling out those "OMG EMOTION!" moments). And the latter has a simpler layout and more elegant embed widget. Instead of an actual waveform like SoundCloud does, BandCamp allows you to choose a visualizer.

Why I prefaced that is because I've gradually accumulated a number of piano-based pieces on SoundCloud which aren't on my main Piano page. (Which is getting long, I realize.) I took a few minutes to create a set (after seeing it done on other sites and wondering how I could attain the same), and if you missed any of these performances earlier, hope you enjoy!

P.S. That Fringe theme continues to be popular. Almost 150,000 downloads now. I wonder what spurred the traffic, as I noticed it spike around the season finale. Word-of-mouth from fansites? Alas, SoundCloud stats don't yet show referrers, whereas BandCamp does.

Incredible work! Your discussion on "A night at the piano" makes me want to learn piano so bad. :)

Will these be available for download as mp3 instead of wav at some point?

The opening of The Fringe Equation reminds me of the beginning of Truman Sleeps by Philip Glass on the Truman Show soundtrack.

very nice music my friend, the techno-like thing you did on the video sounds like the score of a 89' sega race car game, salud!

@Pumpkin That's one thing I wish SoundCloud had: auto-making an MP3 for download too. I may make a big pack of all not-yet-MP3ed stuff later. Sooner, you can easily encode into MP3 using CDex on Windows ( http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/ ).

@darkfox8963 It does! It's very Philip Glassian.

@Basi I love a lot of video game music, great melodies.
