Trancespotting: I observed earlier that Sasha's "Who Killed Sparky?" sounded suspiciously like James Holden's remix of Nathan Fake's "The Sky Was Pink". I even noted in that post that another remix David West collaborated on was stylistically associated.
Get me right: I think West is a phenomenal producer and he's moved from headbanging, anthemic pounders to more stripped-down fare. But whether it was definite influence or mellifluous coincidence (I veer strongly towards the former), his recent release, "The Hideout", sounds so close to "The Sky Was Pink" that it could be a cover version included on one of those soundalike CDs. (Altho they really don't do that a lot for underground electronic music.)
MY GOSH! THEY EVEN HAVE SIMILAR BREAKDOWNS! Plunkyness and accelerating rhythms intact. Compare "The Hideout" @ 3:24 to "The Sky Was Pink" @ 1:27 which seals the case.
Other similarities include using almost the same chord progression and white noise whooshes.
This one's too obvious — someone should make a mashup called "The Hideout Was Pink". :p
