[DEAL] FabFilter Twin + Volcano + Timeless for $100 at MUPromo

2009-07-18

MacUpdate Promo is offering the best pricing on a FabFilter bundle I've seen yet:

FabFilter Twin, FabFilter Volcano, FabFilter Timeless as a bundle. Regular cost $482.00, you can buy them for $99.99. http://bit.ly/zJIos

Thanks to @LaurentBechir for tweeting me about it.

I'm surprised because (1) MUPromo doesn't normally offer pro audio deals and (2) these aren't run-of-the-mill plugins. They've been highly acclaimed in Computer Music and other publications. And their user interfaces look lush. To be fair, (3) the "regular cost" isn't jacked up either: while FabFilter don't have an existing bundle for these 3, the closest ones are still above $200.

My initial confusion with "FabFilter" was thinking that was a plugin name, not the company. Twin is a soft synth (lotsa presets — 1,600), Volcano is a filter, and Timeless aims to recreate tape delay. I just hope these are indeed the newest "version 2"'s being bundled.

But, I haven't actually tried these plugins yet, and as of this writing, there's about 1½ days left on the deal. I'd leave a comment onsite but trying to login results in a "We're sorry…" maintenance message. D'oh! Bad timing. I do notice the Purchase Form appears to work.

So I'm going to download the demos and play. (Note the option to download all their product demos in a single "Total bundle", others should learn from this.) No impulse buys for me, even with such a sparkling deal, I need to be reassured each & every audio plugin I acquire will find a loving home in my studio.

I for one think these are some of the most unappreciated plug-ins. Despite very good reviews, I do not here a lot from users praising them. Maybe the layout just works for me, but the design makes them way user friendly once you get the feel for them. Plus when you do, they all use basically the same layout. I won't even get into the firestorm of sound quality comparisons, but I will put my money on the TWIN vs. any softsynth out there. Those oscillators get dirtier than dos chicas un cupa

@j.gilkey You call out a REALLY GOOD POINT on their consistent look 'n' feel. I know Native Instruments has tried to have similar operation across their plugins, but since there are many more complexities, same sorts of things (like sound browsers) *feel* different in, say, Absynth than Massive.

I'm fond of the unison in Twin so far… reminds me of when I used to stack things up on my Access Virus Rack, only phatter!
