Doggirls in Second Life: are they upon us?

Posted on: June 21, 2008

I hope so, because calling a woman a “dog” gets a bad rap. Many dogs are beautiful creatures and endowed with positive traits: loyalty, tenacity, and more obedient than cats being some of them. It’s true there are ugly dogs, but the same is true of cats. Maybe cats are generally viewed as more feminine. But then again, I see catboys but characters resembling dogboys are often more fursute (not sic) than, say, a human with ears + tail.

There’s a sheer imbalance in the world’s catgirl/doggirl ratio: the former is a very popular subculture, including all manners of merchandise in Second Life, while the latter suffers from a neglected market. The latter lacks a Wikipedia page that the former proudly possesses!

Over a month ago, I twittondered:

There are so many catgirls (neko), but where are the doggirls?

Well, I’m pleased to share that MiaSnow Myriam, co-responsible for the Cult of Toast, has created the above gorgeous skin, whose fur looks so realistic that one might be concerned about shedding! With oodles of faves and comments, the interestingness factor is high — wowza, emotion. Also:

This follows more creative work (some content NSFW) she and close ally Sofia London have excelled at.

Are you a doggirl or dogboy in Second Life? Post pix of your avatars in the comments!

    Always enjoy your blog , and as "Catboy" myself, I can tell you I feel no enmity towards Doggirls. Unless they try and chase me……..on second thoughts, that might be fun…. ;-)
    I've liked to you on my blog btw.

    RL Dog girls are already called 'bitch' and many females do possess that horrid trait but continuously refuse to admit it, denial I would say. If we wont even admit we are 'bitches' then it is not stretching the line to suggest we playact a doggirl (bitch) for fun… just my opinon. LOL
    BTW: my partner has a dog avi, male, and it is quite a kick in the tail!!! Interesting topic…

    Beautiful doggirls!

    @Mimzy: Gosh, your comment cracks me up. When I think of "bitch", my own colored experiences have me associate it more positively (Missy Elliot, one of my fave rappers, has a track called "She's a Bitch").

    @Jessyka: Nezumi eh? We're gonna represent the whole animal kingdom by the time this is over. Where's my narwhal skin!

    @Kara: Settle dowwwwn! =D
