FAQ

Where's all your music?

Right here. :D

Is your music right for me? How do you classify it in words?

Here's detailed info to help you decide.

Why a Dream Journal?

To be perfectly honest, these dreams are visions of alternate realities. I'm co-proprietor of a trans-universal import-export company called Impextations, which recovers aural artifacts in the form of dreamsongs.

Some of the dreamsongs do have written stories.

What are the 12 songs in the SAMPLER?

^ Those? They're listed right here.

What's up with the Dream Journal numbering?

My tracks are like Pokemon: gotta catch 'em all! Like the olde opus system, higher numbers mean I recovered an artifact (composed a work) later, and it's relatively newer. Note the Dream Journal has 6 bonus ambient tracks not shown until you buy it, so that's why there appears to be gaps.

Some extracurricular production, like remixes, are outside the DJ (heh) continuity, and hence don't have numbers.

Is it true there's going to be another Dream Journal?

Another volume, yes. 001-050 is the first and I'm recovering artifacts for the third as I write this… well, maybe not at the exact same time. But you det the grift.

What music gear should I get/upgrade to? What do you use? Etc.

For questions like this, I occasionally do open Q&A on my YouTube channel, so subscribe to catch the next round.

That being said, I can't make gear recommendations for anyone else, just myself. If your tastes are like mine, close enough. See posts like "My choices in MIDI keyboard, DAW, and piano samples (and why)" and also see the Music category of my blog.

I'm open to paid consulting opportunities for more involved discussion. Pardon, the usual "There's just not enough time" applies to me too. I don't provide support for music gear — contact the makers. And I won't reply if I've already answered on my blog; please search.

Do you teach piano?

No, and I have no plans to. But your interest indicates you want me to teach you, so I appreciate this. I don't know if you'll be any good at the end of a 10-year journey. But I can tell you autotelic creativity is always worth it.

Do you have sheet music for… ?

  • The Fringe Theme – Sort of; Claudio Matsuoka transcribed the original TV version. I don't have notes for my extended improv.
  • The Games We Played – Yes, thanks to Jonathan Shen & Andy Tran.

Otherwise, no. I don't notate, and my grasp of standard notation is tenuous. Skilled transcriptions are welcome, so if you've made one (or more), send it to me.

How do I contact you about [fill in blank] stuff?

Unless stated otherwise, all my "Torley" social site accounts (YouTube, Flickr, Tumblr, Twitter, etc.) are personal. While I mention work-related stuff on them, these channels are not official to any of the companies I work for. Unless stated otherwise, my opinions are solely my own.

Do you reply to your email?

Hope for a reply, but don't expect one. Why?
