Fix for M-AUDIO/Evolution MIDI controllers issue

2008-10-18

Quick tip: if you have an M-AUDIO/Evolution MIDI controller that fails to be recognized despite downloading the newest official drivers or mention of it being "class compliant", you may have to install older drivers for it to work. Counterintuitive, yet true.

I ran into this yesterday with my MK-249C on both Mac OS X 10.5 and Windows XP SP3, and it looks like it applies to a number of other models (e.g., MK-449C, MK-461C).

Mac OS X 10.5 (and 10.4)

Thanx to artifact Blog for the tip!

Windows XP SP3 (and possibly SP2 and older)

It was hard to find, so I've hosted it on my DreamHost server.

Let me know if this helps you!

I HAVE A FIX FOR LEOPARD!

That doesn’t work on 10.5 or 10.6, but you can tweak it so the kext patch will actually load. I just found out tonight Here’s my writeup:

“Basically you need to install the Evolution_USB-Keyboard.kext from the driver package linked above by Airotique. Just decompress the .sit file and execute the EvolutionUsbExt.pkg. Or you can do it manually extracting the Evolution_USB-Keyboard.kext with Pacifist.app and installing it with Kext Utility.app.”
