Four Elements III (KRT's Watermelon Remix)
Posted on: November 18, 2008Dayum, I love being remixed! It's always such a surprise too. Kurt McKelvey let me know he remixed the IIIrd movement of Four Elements, and I think it's awesome. Have a listen:
Da remix takes the bangin' piano chords — inspired by classical tradition — and underpins them with head-nodding, ticking hip-hop beat. Sounds like KRT did some time-correction and groove adjustment to tighten up the sync. I <3 the part @ 0:35 in when a new bassline comes in and there's this wide-open starkness in the mid-frequencies, so much atmosphere + emotion. (Could soundtrack a surprisingly effective advert!) Lovely little touches keep things interesting as it progresses, like swirling pads that join in, and later, the reverse-cymbal-to-echo-delays @ 2:38. By the end fade-out, I'm wishing for more.
I mused to Kurt that maybe we should get a rapper on this. You can check out Kurt's music on MySpace and also his band, The Republicans.
Thanx Kurt!

im thinking i will get a rapper on this track… i'll let you know how that goes, we will probably be going into the studio sometime this week here, we'll see what happens.
in any case, im thinking we should work on some more music. is it cool if i sample more of your tracks?
we should start a band… an SL band…
that would rock.
thanks again, Torley.
keep up the great music and everything else, its all greatness…
long live the watermelon.

@Torley: i know your a busy guy, i was just joking about the SL band thing, although it would be REALLY cool… even if it was just a one time thing…
anyway, dont take me seriously on that…
in any case, i will keep working on music and i'll keep you posted when something new comes up…
take it easy, torley.
