give me an exit

2006-05-02

Thanx to Tateru Nino and Seronis Zagato, we have a better way to depart from Help Island. Previously, there were lots of—6, maybe 7 at one point—tiny kiosks that were hard to locate. Mentors and Greeters on HI would also hand out landmarks personally when inquiries came up. It was rather redundant, and you know how much I detest hate that.

Well, we took action and changed it. Tat crafted a spinning EXIT sign, which prompted me to ask why it wasn't red like all the EXIT signs I knew—she indicated this is commonplace in other parts of the world. Learn something new every day! I also phattened up the green beacon streaming out of its top, so the particle effects can be seen clearly from the other end of Help Island. At one point, I made some kinda glitch and ended up with an object with 100+ m link distance (!). Not sure how I did that but it snapped back when I took a copy. Quirks.

I ended up simply supersizing the Help Island —> Mainland kiosk which currently gives Ahern OR Waterhead Welcome Area landmarks, and tinting parts of it green to match the beacon.

A rewording of the sign is also likely in order, to "Ready to explore more of Second Life?"

We'll let it gel for the next few days… see what happens.
