How to make movies in Second Life with WeGame

If you want a quick 'n' easy way to record Second Life video and share it with the world, go right with WeGame. Not just a program but a community-driven site too, I'll show you how you can film and upload a movie in minutes. Simply see the video tutorial above!

If you want to learn more about making movies — including machinima — in Second Life, be sure to see the 1st edition of Torley's Guide to Making Movies! Inside, you'll find more vidtuts covering camera control, WindLight settings, and much more. All made really enjoyable for your pleasure, I promise.

My main movie recorder is Camtasia Studio, and it's excellent, but it's also US$299 after a 30-day free trial. I understand this can be difficult unless you're making movies for a living like me. ;)

Also, continuing from "How to beat-sync songs to video", I plan to be doing more tutorials in my fave editor, Sony Vegas.

Curiosities? Observations? Requests? Please lemme know what's on your mind in the comments!

    If you're in a situation where you can't download and install a plugin but you have Java on the machine, you might want to try http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/ (presently in beta). It isn't machinima quality but you get clicks, audio, the ability to add notes and download .mov.

    I love wegame.com. I have been using it since Jan. Glad you made a video showing it.

    thank you for posting about this and making a tutorial! it seems like such a nice tool for specific uses! kinda quick and dirty and very easy to use! =)

    Whee! I think I know what I'm doing this afternoon :)

    @Graham! Thanks, Daedalus Young and some others have clued me into that tool before — good to use it as you see fit. Downsides for me are (1) really inconsistent framerate which makes it unsuitable for machinima and (2) Java can be very slow/clunky to start on some setups.

    WeGame uses Flash, like just about every other embedded video player out there.

    @Elvis: Sweet to know!

    @Ener: Oh, I had to! Yeah, I find some of the most rewarding wins come through quick results, and then you can build on that.

    @Ghosty: Hehehe……. :D

    Sweet!

    I use both PC and Mac (have to say I love the Mac better LOL) - but just for edification and information: if you use a Macintosh and Leaopard OS-X - "ScreenFlow" is, by far, the bestest new kid on the block for kick-@$$ screen capture.

    I've used it with the latest builds of SL Viewer and it screams beautifully. heheh.

    As for WeGame - thanks T - I'maonmyway to go check it out for your PC times when the old Mac is doing 'real work'. LOL

    Thanks for Rockin'!

    Thanks Torley!

    When encoding with Wegame's client, is the SL viewer required to run in fullscreen mode, or can one set it to capture the active window a la Hypercam?

    Thanks again ;)

  8. Torley Says:

    @Ari: I like ScreenFlow's UI VERY much but it seemed kind of feature-bare for me at the time. Yer welcome!

    @Holocluck: I run WeGame with SL in windowed mode (that's what I did in my tutorial), and it works JUST FINE. :)
