I Eat Dirt
Posted on: November 9, 2005
I eat dirt on SL. I mean that as literally as I can possibly mean it, and by that, I mean: I EAT DIRT. As is commonly known, I don't have a fixed home on SL apart from living in the Midnight City Dumpster?the residence of this Resident is @ Midnight City (233, 177) if you wanna drop by sometime. If you are a fellow po' avatar, you can go ahead and sleep in my dumpster t00. And see my creation, "SNOWD00d". Iumi comes to visit. —>
When FREE (formerly more commonly known as "Basic") account-holding Residents cry out on the SL Forums, I feel it all. When they say "What about those who can't make anything!" I raise my hand too and guide them towards happy choices, because I do realize while some doors are shut to an individual, one must been as keen as a kittycat to see not only the windows, but the intergalactic gateways of self-improvement and personal success here. I say "personal" because I am very content seemingly not doing very much at all. Some might not be.
All I ask is that someone not give up on Second Life, that they not give up on themself. Will you be a rule or the exception? I'll avoid aphorisms, but I'll actively recollect a personal experience that happened to me just today…
Delairen Baysklef is a good friend of mine. I first encountered her at the now-gone Classic Games Park in Fuschia, which her partner Xylor was a cocreator of. Del and I got to know each other through deep conversations on many topics. The second time I met her, I saw her fussing around with furniture?something she still doesn't make and sell to this day. What she has become increasingly proficient at, however, are creations for the tops and bottoms of avatars. In other words, HAIR and SHOES.
I keep hopin' Del will make more shoes. Right now, she's on a hair kick, so gotta let that electricity arc its way on up the spine. What's particularly funny is I never recall her saying "I CAN NEVER DO THIS!" She has expressed challenges with things?ever wonder why there isn't an easier way to mirror symmetrical footwear??but she continues driving down this road. Tonnes o' hairstyles later, not only does Del have a store full of her creations, she's continued to upgrade it to the point where a namechange came into play. It used to be Delphi Creations, and now is Delectica.
I'm singling her out for a very special reason today, and that is because I enjoy her latest hairstyle, the "Felicia". (She selects a feminine name for each one.) Not only the end result, but the process she arrived at. Lemme tell you, earlier today, she showed me the texture she cooked up for it with the help of Nephilaine Protagonist, and asked me for my opinion. I gave it to her!
"the green isn't bright enough"
Four revisions later?and no less than!?Del finally came up with a hair texture that I say is "PARFAIT!"

After wearing the hair, I decided to make some mods of my own. Namely, enlarging the bangs so they almost drape over my eyes, and jumbosizing the hairband. It's certainly a new look for me (think Jem trippin' on anime acid), and marks the first time in SL that I've had green-and-pink hair integrated into a single texture, that I haven't had to recolor.
Here's another look from the backside so you can see the richness striped into those hair textures!

Isn't that awesomelicious? IT IS.
