I couldn't resists! Watch the fun video above. And to paraphrase Kung Fu Panda, there's no charge for awesome. (Sorry about the bad sound clipping which pains ears, the Logitech QuickCam 9000's microphone is awful that way, but pretty good otherwise.)
My previous pair broke (one of the nose-hinges became loose, and I scratched it in the process of "trying" to "fix" it, then had to superglue it as a workaround… messy).
But thankfully I just received a new pair from Googles4u, which I ordered from last year too. They have great prices (typically under US$50, mine are higher-cost because I have a STRONG prescrip) and selection. 5% discount for using code "GlassyEyes" + 15% discount for repeat customer — yes, it's glaringly obvious what a thrifty shopper I am by this point. (I'm the same guy who just mailed in a US$15 rebate for my wife's GeForce 9800GT!) I originally heard of Goggles4u from GlassyEyes, and the only downsides I'd peg are:
- Long shipping (2-3 weeks and no options to accelerate that) and
- Choices are vast but search sux. I had to use Google to narrow it down to… GLORIOSITY!!!!
For the love of YOUR VISION and YOUR POCKETBOOK/PURSE/MURSE, don't get ripped off paying too much for eyewear. I gain nothing but happiness from enlightening you that there are many eyeglasses options out there which are cheaper and just as good, if not better quality. Be sure to see GlassyEyes for more tips, the amount of jacked-up prices are absurdly idiotic, especially in a hurting economy.
Here's what I did:
- Found these frames for US$12.99. Which are now discontinued, so if you want watermelon glasses, we'll have to wait for the next model to come instock. Most frames are US$12.99.
- Selected "CR Material (Distance or Reading) – Thinnest – 1.67". US$40.00. So total cost is now US$52.99.
- Clicked Next Step then filled in my prescription. Confirmed it.
- Went to Cart checkout, filled in usual shipping + billing info, entered 5% "GlassyEyes" Coupon. Whee, down to US$50.34. Clicked Checkout again.
- Filled in payment into, clicked Checkout again.
- Bought these lovely things!
- Afterwards, I emailed support1 at goggles4u dot com for my additional 15% discount for being a repeat customer. I didn't get a reply when I emailed another addy of theirs earlier (info at goggles4u dot com) as instructed, so try the support1 one.
- Waited, glasses got delivered.
- Broadcasted my joy on the Internet.
And that's the story behind my fresh vision.

Wow Torley, thanks for the great info!
As a glasses wearer for almost 30 years now (!!! since I was 5 or 6) I've been wanting new glasses ever since about 1 month after getting my last pair (thought I liked them, turned out I found them meh after a period of time). But I can hardly afford that! I have pretty bad vision so I need thin lenses and the good frames I like are always so expensive. But now I will DEFINITELY be using googles4u, and I'll be able to afford to get new glasses so much sooner, perhaps after the new year
YaY! muchas gracias
ty ty ty Torley you are so awesome i am going to let a few people know about that site. as always love the site and all the information you give.
Cool glasses! Love the site, and I've become a big fan of your tutorials… thanks for your hard work & awesome tips! (And for the crazy hair, was great for a chuckle!)
Now those are some funky-fruity glasses haha
Mine are.. just plain old grey, so I may have to give that site a look :3
Thanks Torley for this really usefull tip. I love your exuberance. They sure had some wild combinations of colors. Made me think away from basic black.
=^_^= Thankya, thankya! It was a really EYE-OPENING experience for me, knowing that (1) there are cooler frames out there and (2) they can be had for less $$$ than one might think.
@QueenKellee: Hope you have a great experience! I gotta disclaim that I haven't ordered glasses from any other really affordable online place, so my experience is limited, but both my pairs have been right for the price!
Hi Torley,
awesome glasses there
I know only to well what great experience can be. I usually paid a lot for my glasses since i need special lenses and since they needed some suppport the frame usually looked like …. oh well lets skip that
Here in Germany a new retailer opened a year ago selling all glasses at one price (95€) and the first time going there was an experience similar to yours going like "WOW! I will buy 6 of them!" *LOL*
Oh.. I love them! Awsome.
NICE HAIR! ^^" Do you ever go out and buy like fifty of 'em and then lose 'em all in your hair? (that question can be ritorical [How do you spell ritorical?])
@Alca: Not yet, but could happen.
