I say thank-you to Second Life's Volunteers!

Posted on: November 14, 2007

oooo colorful

Now is the time for me to give a deep thank-you to each and all the Second Life Volunteers who showed up on Volunteer Island to learn more about WindLight. Pastrami Linden & I co-chaired and Mia Linden moderated. Amber, George, and Lexie of our dear VTeam were also present, and I heard Blue shouting in the distance. ;)

I'm not closely involved on a regular basis with our Volunteers as I was in the earlier days of SL, but their positive presence is certainly felt and appreciated every single time I hear from a Resi, "Thanks, [volunteer] answered my questions and pointed me towards your video tutorial (or something else I did) and it helped!"

See, oftentimes I've learned, being the creator of information isn't the only important role: distributing, compiling and otherwise sharing it is essential. I abhor seeing available info go unused, and I precisely create info-guides to help facilitate the repetitive barrage of incoming queries volunteers get, which I know all too well.

I wanted to take more pictures at this event; it's unfortunate there appears to be a WindLight bug that crashes me on occasion when taking snapshots in crowded scenes. It's tough to repro, but I'm keeping my eyes out for it, so if you've had it too, please make mention on the public Issue Tracker and LET ME KNOW. I'll pay attention.

If you'd like to extend your goodwill in our community, learn more about the Second Life Volunteer Programme, and when you're ready, sign up!

It sounds like only Mentors were invited to this? I'm a mere Help Person®VIP who spends hours a day on Help Island Public (as do several other residents). I think LL forgets about us… Sigh.

It would be a nice gesture Torley, if you would extend future invites to us as well? Then if we are not too busy helping someone with a long and complicated problem, we can be there too.

@Tid: Awwww, I think this was Mentors only but I'll need to confirm with LL's Volunteer Team; I apologize I left out that detail and don't want to give you the wrong impression. I wouldn't call yourself "mere", and recommend everyone who hasn't checked out Tid Kidd's helpful wiki page should do so:
