I'm an excellent driver —

Round the bend

Well, perhaps not yet, but I'm making progress. I've had this ongoing surge of energy recently, and it hasn't stopped so far. For the past couple or so weeks, I've mostly been "getting by" on 4 hours of sleep. (I've supplemented it with energy drinks, but I'm weaning off 'em.) While this may sound dangerously low, there was a stretch for several years during high school during which I slept so short. Why'd I stop? Because I value dream-time. Those times have long passed, but I face an intriguing paradox: to get a lot done (mostly professional work), while at the same time being able to lay back and take a relaxed stride through life.

That's part of the reason why I've been driving more lately. OK, "more" including a couple trips this week, which isn't all that excessive, but — it's given me more self-confidence to be on the open road and I'm really enjoying the journey. Not just the A and B endpoints, but what I see along the way.

I've had a historical problem of being too overwhelmed and distracted by everything that passed by when I'm cruising in the car, but I've got better focus now. I'll need to keep practicing to do very well, but accompanied with some good tunes, I can't be stopped — or more positively put, I keep going!

Easily, I think of Kraftwerk's "Autobahn", and how I've been learning how important it is to have both the coming-soon and the coming-later events in perspective, since there's not ever one single final destination in life, but many steps, and hence, journeys, along the way.

Driving is more calming to me now. Perhaps I over-romanticize and maybe Driving Miss Daisy has gotten to me, but I find the idea of getting in a Holden Efijy with my beloved wife Jenny and going for a ride into the lush country really, really appealing. I see houses with white picket fences… orchards with fresh fruit… and those kinda roads that go up hills, and you can't see what's on the other side until you get there. I find it difficult to resist future-retro stylings and the class, the prestige, the wonder, the comfort that comes with them…

Okay, I am having a crisis… I watched your video tutorial about how to turn off the typing animation, and from there I started messing around with those debug settings in the Client Menu….next thing I know, my cannot log onto SL. Well, I log on and it says “loading” in the upper right hand corner but, never actually loads. So the screen is black, I can’t stand up, or see my avatar.

I have been in SL for about a year now and I have never experienced this before. So, did I just like totally screw up my SL login? …or am I having problems just due to the maintenance in SL?

I did notice my friends were able to login and I tried logging in at another location…but still nothing.

Then I visited the Support Page and followed the “Uninstalling SL” instructions. So I reinstalled SL and that didn’t work either. And now I just don’t know what to do!

Can anyone help me here? -I also used to have a primary account and downgraded thinking it would save me money since I already owned 2 island parcels and shop constantly.

I submitted a ticket to support but I am concerned they may not help since I no longer have a primary account. I also left a comment about my issue on the main SL Blog site too.

I may be over reacting, but I have literally spent a few thousand REAL DOLLARS in SL in the past year and I will just dye if something happened to my inventory.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

@PinkyPriss: You also sent me an email after, so I'll reply here. I'm sorry to hear what happened, ack! I recommend waiting for what our Support Team says, because I'm not support and am not in the best position to help you.

In the meantime, however, do you remember what settings you messed around with, exactly? A clean uninstall should've worked. Else, you need to delete your settings.xml file — search your hard drive for it, or on Windows, look in a directory like:

    C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.xml

I hope you're able to get back alright!
