I'm chatting about avatars this Friday at Orange Island

Orange Orange Island

(Golly, Orange Island sure does look Orange in WindLight… did ya know it's out today?!)

What does - or does not - an avatar reveal about its owner? How does virtual identity become a brand? Is the humanoid form the best way to express our true selves?

I'm participating in the "Avatar as a Personal Brand" panel on Orange Island in Second Life on 2007-11-16 to talk about what my avatar means to me. Thanx to Adri Saarinen (who presently is enjoying WindLight) for helping get me involved. You've come to associate me with watermelons, as well as often being a female in SL, and there's much more to me than that. APPARENTLY. So,

Come find out with us on Friday, November 16, as Orange Island will be hosting a series of discussions by Second Life residents and community leaders on the nature of identity and avatars. This Identity Summit will address such topics as non-human avatars, avatars as personas, and avatars as personal brands.

In particular,

Friday, November 16

9am – 10am – Avatar as a Personal Brand
Speakers: Torley Linden, Celebrity Trollop, and Saeya Nyanda
Moderator: Haver Cole

See Orange's full announcement with the Identity Summit Schedule, so have a look. This will be in TEXT CHAT.

Per the instructions, register with Haver Cole if you intend to make it, and here's my requisite "hope to see you there!" :)

Those Orange Island shots are great! <3 Windlight :D :D :D

Just a note, the pre-registration is for our awesome Avatar Showcase tomorrow (10am SLT), where each avatar will have a chance to describe his or her avatar and the thoughts behind it. The top three avatars (as voted by the audience) will have their portraits taken by Callipygian Christensen and displayed on Friday during the Summit!

The Identity Summit and discussions themselves are open to anyone who wants to come, though the sim may fill quickly. Transcripts of the panels will be available on the Orange Island blog (http://www.orange-island.com) following the event.

    (zomg windlight!)

    Hi Torley

Would LOVE to be there, sounds sooo exciting. Avatars is a subject VERY close to my heart. But…

The link for registering via Haver Cole doesn't work, it just took me to some page called Extralab which asked me to login to my account! Er …. what? Looks like I will have to IM Haver in SL instead… [/me disappears off into SL for a few moments] …done!

  3. Torley Says:

@Tid: Dandy to see you here! The link to Haver's name was a mailto: link which should open your default email program. It looks like you made it fine, in any case! =)

@Adri: Thank you SO much for the great communication and helping me to get involved. It's a pleasure to be part of this celebration of the modern avatar in our new frontier. (And I wonder how we will look back on these events some years from now?)
