This is my apology, because I very much like to see more people learn to play the songs they enjoy. Alas, while I have decent sight-reading skills, I'm by no means a skilled transcriber, so most of the piano music I have up, I've improvised or otherwise performed by ear. And I learn by ear, too: listening to popular tunes I play many times before jamming along. For instance, Avril Lavigne's "Things I'll Never Say", which I've also done a solo piano MP3 of:
Usual disclaimer applies: I play other artists' songs because they're damn catchy, not because I'm out to pilfer royalties. If transcriptions come forth, they won't be official, and unlike gamblers, aren't in for the money.
Backstory
I also did many performances live outside the confines of a MIDI sequence recorder, altho in more recent videos, I often have MidiKeys open so you can see notes — at least some of them, because it doesn't extend to all 88 keys. I asked MidiKeys' creator but it sounds like he doesn't plan to add more keys as a feature, so if you know an app that does show all 88, let me know.
Ableton Live (my audio workstation of choice) does support MIDI output of clips, but even then, it'd need tender loving care to cleanup. I have much, much respect to talented engravers who are the typography world's more musical enchanters. Kudos:
- I never thought the massive video game medley "The Games We Played" would get a transcription, but Jonathan Shen & Andy Tran awesomely got it done.
- Frequent comment contributor Thattagen transcribed "Xristospiano", what a nice surprise!
Long story short, if I do have sheet music for a piece, I'll attach it in the same post, or a related one in "Similar Posts" on the right. For example, if you go to "Fringe Theme on piano", you'll also see "[MUSIC] Fringe theme sheet music notes".
Eventually if there's enough contributions, I may compile all of them into one post and update that periodically.
Learning to transcribe better isn't a high priority of mine due to the many other things I do (and would prefer to do), which is why I'm thankful for the help I get. If you've made a quality sheet music transcription, I'll GLADLY post it, contact me and bless your musical soul.
