In the Name of Science

There's a Scripters's Trade Show happening in SL right now. It ends at, like, the end of today. This is the second one I've attended—the first, last year, took place in the sky in more claustrophobic rooms (not unlike a vintage scifi). This time, we get lots of floating platforms, and if you do scripting and wanna exhibit, there's still some stages free. I've been coming back each day, seeing what's new.

Scripting is a cornerstone of SL. It gets our vehicles in motion, overrides our animations, and makes doors open too. The nice thing is, even if you don't know how to do it, a fellow Resident can. I used to parlay a certain joke with a friend, that in The Matrix Online, if you code, it's just simulated. In Second Life, you are really programming! You learn actual skills here. With that comes certain levels of logical accountability, however…

Think of this like a rompy science fair. I used to go to Science World a lot. The last time I visited, I realized I was too big for the oversized Legos. I like seeing wall-to-wall experiments, and it's funny when things go a little amuck (not like monstrous robots eviscerating little kids tho, that's just freaky!). But, we do have robots here: pictured inset are Seifert Surface's droids, doing a disco dance.

The Scripters's Trade Show is now taking place @ Bethel (241, 14) and the surrounding area!
