Learn how to build better at Idea City's Design Center

Sometimes the best decisions are made when you're most tired: raw, unfettered emotions come through, not burdened with the lattices of straining to put too much effort into something that'll ultimately result in nothing. And it's not just merely about speaking your mind, either, but expression unkempt by cliched "I tell it like it is", the way an icebreaker smashes through blocks of solid water. No, this is better: you're telling it how you wish it to be.

Such truths come true at Forseti Svarog's Design Center in Idea City.

Wanna learn how to build in Second Life? Sure, start and study well at the quintessential Ivory Tower of Primitives in Natoma. Then, come here. In For's own words:

I was thinking what would people want to know once they've learned the Ivory Tower

WEL U THOT RITE D00D!

Think of Heloise on prim crack: well, not that drugged, but with a calming menace of precision that belies boring building. Remember kids, when you create a bad build, you're only punishing yourself!

Ever wanted to learn how to cellshade prims? (Hey, I just mentioned that!) Want a free, convenient kit of Do-It-Yourself shadows to add those very pretty effects to your own builds? Ever wonder what difference a few numbers of texture offset can make? And even pointers to some quality packs of free textures on the web (more inworld resources would be nice)?

Well, COME. COME TO FORSETI'S AMAZING DESIGN CENTER! muhahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Lots of practical knowledge which you can apply to your next SL construct. Or as For terms it, being a "primmer". Making this a prim primer. Take that, you black-hearted, bastard seams!

I know firsthand a lot of goodness advices which were previously scattered, aka tribal knowledge, are aggregated here not only for your convenience, but your luxury. Learn at your own pace, distill achievables — the notecards point how they can (and I'm not a fan of the Arial-ish font on the signs, not class enough), but really, actual 3D visuals make the difference!

You'll not find better proof than the center itself — still in-progress, I reckon. And while you're at it, stroll like Number 6 in Portmeirion 'cross the rest o' Design City. It's just lush. As big as Second Life is today, you don't see this kind of excellence in proportion, so guzzle it up and refuel on inspiration.

I think word is begging to get out about this place like a wanton whore in search of her next high. So very high indeed.

[...] Connected to what I wrote the other day about Forseti Svarog's Design Center, Joel's got some shots of it too. And Joel's actually… well, in all honesty, I don't know quite what his position is @ GDS&M, nor what his Second Life name is, but he sounds pretty important to the project. [...]
