Let the games begin!
Posted on: September 21, 2004Ever since I first came to Second Life, games have been a big part of my virtual existence. Mainly, quizzes and Jeopardy (an inverse quiz of sorts). I like answering questions — about half of the time anyway — and?my aesthetics are skewed to the point that I don't think many people would be buying compiled bundles of prims-n-scripts from me anytime soon, so I play games. And games are fun, both on a "getting to know you" level and a "YUGE" level… yup, that's?The Donald?$peaking!
Today I did well for myself all-round, and went quizhopping, essentially. Pituca and Garth have their dandy Jeopardy! (exclamation ou non?) on FairChang Island, and I did Liona Clio's Star Wars trivia too. May the live long and prosper be with you. (I hope a future installment will include Stargate SG-1 questions, although I haven't been personally pleased with Season 8 so far.
) I spectated Mae Best's "Knot A Quiz" but I did?knot play
— purrhaps next time.?Lastly, the testing of Tony Tigereye's new "FACT OR CRAP?" game and his raffle capped off the night stylishly.
Today was a very bad lag day. I experienced numerous g-G-ghosting occurrences and was repeatedly unable to teleport. I had to log in and out more times than the digits on Yoda's hands. The day went well though. My own brand of "lag" (not lager) is not altogether uncommon because I experience what I call chronodistortion. Einstein's relativity appeals to me all too often. When I was young, I had the occasional bout of narcolepsy and this only added to my confusion. Even now, I stumble through the hours, minutes, and seconds of some days and wonder "Where did it all go?" So one reason why I blog about things is to chronicle the events that have happened to me, although I can't always do so with great certainty.
I perceive many possibilities . . .
There are some amazing fellow game players on SL. I believe Lisse Livingston to be a devoted acolyte of the Yatzee I mentioned the other day, and she also has a blog as that previous hyperlink indicates. :)?Clio Anansi, who I have gotten to know briefly, was a centaur today (her avatar) and she is SOOO GOOD at Jeopardy. I have much to learn from experienced,?sage?veterans like these. I always fumble into situations like this with the wide-eyed childishness of, well, a child . . . tapping away with my keyboard with some bass-ackwards order. As Pituca Chang noticed, for me, I type ALT-CTRL-DEL when doing the?"three-fingered salute" instead of the more common CTRL-ALT-DEL way. I am using the alt-pairs found to the right of the space bar. ^_^
Again, I must reiterate how much I appreciate the diversity within Second Life. And even when that diversity includes disagreeable people, as the friendly TinaStar Dawn?points out, "turning enemies into friends" is a wonderful thing indeed. In her own words:
"I think there is a very good lesson in this all somewhere about combatting hostility with kindness and making the effort to expose bias and rumor to facts and experience. I believe that in the course of a few hours this person has changed from a rabid anti Second Life trouble maker to an awed fan who could turn out to be a new friend. :)"
Indeed. Let's see what the future holds. And when in doubt, if possible, embrace the best of both (or more) worlds. I'm an AND-type of person, not an OR-type, when it comes to selecting items on the buffet of existence.
Like my First Life friend Dana Skrinnikoff says, and something I have borrowed from her, "Be Fun"
