Lindens Inworld

Posted on: April 29, 2006
Today—er, yesterday—the Second Life grid closed, the grid opened. I'm sure the usual trustworthy news sources will report on it; such reporting is not to be taken for granted!

And throughout it all, I regularly checked the SL Forums 'cuz I know how much Resis like to—or don't like to, but will anyway—post. What doesn't get seen is what's happening inworld; as login was restricted to Linden Lab employees.

This is something I'd often been curious about since the start of my SL. Well, this may be a first, this may not, but here we are, shortly before the grid reopened:

From left-to-right, staggered and strong: beez, Mick, Deana Milo, Zero, Torley, Teeple, Mia, Kenny, and James Linden. Steve was inworld and busy elsewhere! From the oldest to the newest generations of Lindens. :)

All this while I was guided by Robin, who is always so calm and in control.

There were more who weren't present at this gathering but working "behind the stage", so to speak, communicating important info and dealing with the actual machinery which SL exists on and the systems—like running undercurrents of water—which keep it going. Wondrous schtuff, this social technology!

This also gave me a nice opportunity to upload a picture to my Flickr account for the first time.

Even tho most Resis never see what's going on, nor do I (physically), I know the end result, historically, has been that no matter what day or time during the week, we always endeavor—and often succeed—in picking things up rapidly on the rare occasions they happen to fall down. You may not observe the process, but you'll see the results.

I love being here. It's a testament to how great a growing population we have, and how much our community cares when quips about SL withdrawal symptoms and "WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO LOGIN AGAIN?" (which I've uttered a few times myself, albeit in a more stylized manner) form like stormclouds over the savanna plains. And after the rainbows, there is more rain—and more rainbows again!
