Looking for a way to fluently feed Tumblr into WordPress

2009-11-07

I enjoy using Tumblr to clip thoughts throughout my day, but it's repeatedly struck me as odd that my Tumblog feels… well, so separate from this main blog. I searched up and down for ways to better consolidate them, and the best I've come up with so far is the FeedWordPress plugin to syndicate stuff. As the last couple of posts indicate as an experiment, it works OK, but doesn't copy over clickthrough-able images and videos (since Tumblr's RSS feeds don't include those). Correction: as shown here, it appears a video got copied over! I'm surprised.

I also tried WordPress' own Press This to see if I could simply use WP self-sufficiently, but it has a much more awkward and multi-step feel than Tumblr, and doesn't auto-detect the medium on specialized sites — for instance, it gets YouTube but not Vimeo, whereas Tumblr knows both.

QuickPost looked inspiring but isn't in active development.

Any ideas?

I won't presume to proclaim you are "doing it backward" – [hint, wink].

I do it like so: I have my "AriBlackthorne.com" URL point to my tumblr blog. In Tumblr, I have it set to pluck headlines and pictures (if any) from my CommonSensible.net blog (which I post to two or three times a week).

I let people know the differences between them and say: 'Common Sensible is where you'll find my more philosophical stuff and 100% Second Life-related in some fashion – but there is a link from there to my "main blog…

'However, if you can stand my twisted sense of humor and curious to see what sparks my interest throughout the day, follow me at my tumblr blog. When I post something on Common Sensible, you won't miss it because it will automatically be highlighted at the tumblr location.'

And by the way, I *love your Tumblr feed. :-D
When are you going to add Disqus? (I *love* Disqus – need to get it on my CS blog.)

@Ari I've seen Disqus benefit others like yourself, thanks! I don't plan to add it on my Tumblr, as that's being fed here, and as for this current blog, I don't feel there's an overwhelming advantage… yet. I also admit part of my hesitation is because I've tried IntenseDebate and another "global commenting system" before, and both, despite my hopes to the contrary, messed up things.

I <3 Tumblr's simplicity but I still like a lot of what WordPress has to offer, like plugins, so I'll keep that my "core" for now.
