Tay Zonday's a hero of mine — it takes a lot of heart and courage and/or being oblivious to societal norms to post videos of yourself on the Internet… singing. What is so outrageous about that, I might ask? Nothing, but strikingly unique singers have long captured the attention of the public. I was sorta late to the "Chocolate Rain" meme, and by this time it had over 5 million views and many parodies, one of them being an ingenious takeoff of Mega Man.
I was particularly tickled to see gestures based on the song in Second Life — the first I found was Tesla Miles, and Kit Maitland kindly sent me another's. Hearing the same loop over and over has earwormed itself deep within me…
In my head over the last couple of weeks, the idea kept brewing as I lay on my back before sleeping: if Tay Zonday has the elemental chocolate rain, what do I have? And then I remembered the queer phenomena of watermelon snow, and spontaneously decided that it'd be this weekend's relaxation project (one of them, anyway).

That's another thing I hadn't heard about, melon snow. I have to show my husband that wikipedia link, I had never seen pink algae in the snow, nature is so surprising sometimes!

Thanks so much for all the supportive comments! I'm so happy I did this after thinking about it on and off. That's the way projects for me tend to come together… if I think too much then I overanalyze and don't get it done, whereas here, I dove in.

@Spikez: Haha I totally agree, I have them so often with sushi. As a kid, I detested the weird texture, but my acquired taste has finally "got it".

And re: the gestures, Tesla's at least plays portions of the song all queued up together, while your avatar gesticulates. Unfortunately, there's no "move away from the mic to breathe" bit, but I'm sure that's not too hard to do.
