Memories of Green & Pink

Posted on: September 30, 2006

I've just awoken from one of the most incredibly deep, intense naps I've ever taken. I normally don't like naps because even a short one leaves my throat feeling parched. Which maybe is cause justification in the future to have a "Nap-Dealing Kit" on the side of my bed. Wake up, reach for it!

No, I'm not the only one who thinks Delia & Gavin's "Black Spring" sounds like Tangerine Dream's "Love on a Real Train".

That's what we need in Second Life — more trains, going places.

*shakes my head, defrosting*

You know what else we need? Some computer companies to sell pre-config'ed PCs optimized for being in Second Life. There are all sorts of gamer rigs out there now. And to be realistic, especially with more companies doing online worlds, the tadpole market for systems that work great with SL+ is growing. It'd be great to take the guesswork (and confusion) out because the System Recommendations is but a list of parts for mid-range performance, and not even a "You want the best bang-for-buck system for Second Life on the market today?" What a present gap tho — which is why I'm looking forward to watching it grow.

YouTube's a boundless, fertile ground for watching stuff you missed the first time 'round, or a refresher for your youth. Now's as good a time as any to share I found the original CNET interview with Psykosonik — over a decade ago — that I was alluding to earlier. Thanx YouTube and masoschizm for uploading it! Check out the "Welcome To My Mind" music vid too. Thrashy cyberpunk goodness.

Other early faves, and I'll be adding more:

K, 'nuff words. It's an accomplishment to write tersely.

So, I was over in There: Virtual Laguna Beach and think the campfires are great. Very easy to sit down and join the chat while life goes by. We've had more tiki-ness in SL lately, and we could do with some of these. Maybe I'm just a sucker because it makes me think of summer camp.

More Resis should use click actions (right-click your object, Edit, and look under "When Left-Clicked") to make sitting on their stuff easier.

Something else I really, really like from There: the dogs. And oh, the ThereGoggles too. I wanna automatically let the people around me inworld know when I'm IMing.

In a world without pets, we're in a bad place. Not having companion animals is cause to be a little colder, a little less bolder, and I'm sure studies have been done on the therapeutic effects of virtual pets for those who don't want a RL mess, but I haven't seen one yet.

I'm eating clam chowder (chunky soup) right now. It's pretty hearty.
