Moving shadows

Experimental excitement. I missed being able to roll into the shade for a long time. Now, this slice of joy returns — you might say: "Let there be WindLight, and now there is darkness."
More videos are appearing, lindseywarwick, davidgross, and somatika have shared the shadow-world through their eyes.
This'll be grand for sundial fans.

That is awesome. Is that going to be in a first look viewer soon?

Great
thats I think the last missing element in the Windlight viewer.
At least it would save us alot prims with shadowtextures on it.
Can't wait for this to have it released ^.^

@Coyote #2 Don't jump the gun. Watch it again–no shadows for the prim objects in the sim.

Even, as Otenth remarks, there is not prim shadows (except attached ones) i think is a great start. I'm really excited about shadowing.

@Colin
I don't expect to see it soon.

Right now you have to download a specific subset of the source code and build it by yourself (or use a 3rd party viewer built by someone else).
Also, you must have a Nvidia 8xxx/9xxx graphic card to use this.

@Othenth I really thought I saw all objects shadow up in lindsey's vid. Anywayz, it's great to see things like that. It does, like Arch says, make things quite nice… Just hope for most people SL doesn't end up with sys req. like Crysis and progs like that

This isn't planned for a First Look viewer *yet* but there is a DIY patch out there in the wild some Residents have applied.
There *are* prim shadows! Look, look carefully and watch the linked vids made by fellow Resis.
I'll post another video shortly making this more clear. Or shadowy.

All prims cast shadows on all other prims & land. It really does add a lot of atmosphere.
At the moment only the sun & moon cast shadows though; local lights don't.
Now what I'm really waiting for is depth of field *nod*, *nudge*

@Tenebrous: "Depth of field" reminds me of one of my longtime requests for a "long exposure" camera in Second Life. ;D
Thanks for checking it out!

yeah.. I'm running some real extreme hardware here,
GTX280, 790i nVidia board, QX9775 for all my gaming needs.. It'd be real nice to get some shadows in SL:)

i surely hope Prim Shadows will be re-used in SL again, i love to build and also love the extra features, i saw on SLwiki that they removed it after the beta version and it won't be coming back anymore… stupid, it's such a waste of a nice extra feature!!!
