(So, this blog entry comes very late. I hate excuses, but I have a good excuse: work kept me busy, and if you were following the Official Linden Blog, you'll know why — SAY HELLO TO UR COMMMONKEY.
Makes me wonder sometimes if I need a "third place" blog; while I've guest-blogged for other outlets, this isn't a constantly ongoing thing. Nor am I reasonably certain I could hold that position with all the other craziness in my life!)
So, to the meat: first off, I have to give a gracious thankyou to Rohan Freeman for filling me on all of this — much ado about electronic music duo Longrange, because it looks like they're having a pretty massive concert inworld. They even have a dedicated domain, LONGRANGEINSECONDLIFE.COM. Aha. Go there and reserve free tickets, enter your Second Life name and that of a loved one!
In particular, I'm fascinated to see how their motion-captured dance moves play out… and will they offer packs either for free or for sale to concertgoers? Especially if they wanna join in.
Backstory to this is how much I LURVE techno (use that loosely, mate) legends Orbital — namedrop alert! — and how Phil of the brothers Hartnoll is now 1/2 of Longrange. I'm not that familiar with Nick Smith's work, but I will be soon. Call it a childlike dream that I want to see my heroes up-close, and at the same time, discover something new.
Hope there's glorious usage of local lighting… you can bet I'll be turning my Nighttime Brightness to 0.000 fo' max. effect.
As commented, Desmond Shang and his domain of Caledon are involved in the forthcoming music video too. Nice! *excited look*

Well,
my commonkey was a great comm-on-key today. Better later thannnn-ever and half Orbital is worth some blood given. 16 Acres is plenty of room, is it?
Good job Torley. Sincerely, Thank You.
Now,
make sure when Mr. Jenkinson aka Squarepusher is ready with his 16 Acres and virtual bass to scream it out loud as that is worth alot-of-blood. And I hope it'll be soon.
Are you going to tour anytime soon? U have 230 good reasons and a few Acres we can find, can't we?
starcomber, one of the beautiful things about high-velocity, pulse-pounding electronic music is by its very nature (or lack of it), it encourages Second Life's FPS to be higher. If you've seen the video for "Come On My Selector", the audiovisual sync is tactically brilliant.
While I don't actively make music and don't perform live anymore, Rohan asked me if I wanted to be the warm-up act for Longrange, which means if that gooooes, some of my tracks will be played before the big show. Yeah, I'm really enthused. =)
Chris Cunningham always crunches a brilliant script the hard way, does not just let it go and in fact we may agree that video is brilliantly tactical
And good is to hear Longrange wont just invade but also drag from SL classics like your tapes and atmospheres. Let's be many then!
Isn't this just AWESOME?

Des: I know Davan's earlier work from the times I visited him and you in Alice. I'll check it out. I came to the LongRange concert but alas, found out it was rescheduled because of lack of broadband at the live venue. :\ I don't know what happened after that, the website still says the old date.
starcomber: Have you seen Flex? I've only seen brief clips, but it's (without sounding cliched) truely original, one of the most remarkable things I've seen in a long time.
