We love Sushi.
Not just the food, the cat!
We adopted a black cat with big yellow eyes yesterday from the Seattle Humane Society. We named him Sushi after having Japanese food 2 days in a row, and he's getting along well. Altho last night, I found it difficult to sleep and lay precariously at the edge of the bed because Sushi was occupying the space between my wife and I.
We looked at many cats over the stretch of several hours, and the shelter staff & volunteers were very nice. Some cats looked pretty but they didn't seem that loving, altho this may've been due to stress within that environment. I PUT EMPHASIS ON LOVING FIRST! While Sushi wasn't on our original list to check out, I knew there was something special about him when I kept putting my fist out and saying "Hit it".
Most cats I tried that with didn't go for it — they'd either not respond, or would sniff. But I like how firmly Sushi head-butts my hand. Repeatedly. (Until he got pissed off and took a claw-swipe at me, tuckering down for the ride home.)
Oh yes, Sushi is a real head-butter. Apparently, this is a good thing. He also drools a lot (like a dog's wet nose) and is somewhat overweight, so we need to get him checked out.
This is my first pet. I had fish many years ago, but they weren't very pettable. My wife has had many animals before, including cats and dozens of chinchillas. She's helped instill confidence in me because I was feeling rather anxious about our new feline friend.
Maybe I'll show Sushi how to play Second Life. And make some incidental lolcat posters.

Bring Sushi on the grid. And make a humanoid avatar for it. So we have an original furry that disguises as human :p

Awwww…what a sweet little guy! And he gives emphatic nudges, too! I could've told you, that means he's a lovie cat.
Only about a month ago, my baby girl Star passed beyond the veil and is now enjoying a well-deserved rest in the Eternal Catnip Fields. (She was 16 years old. She lived a long, happy life.) Someday, Sabrina and I will have to go down to the Dumb Friends League, which is our local Humane Society-type organization, and find another kitty to love.

Now that you have a cat, I recommend reading 'What's Michael' manga (http://www.ex.org/2.5/31-manga_michael.html), it's always hilarious for cat owners 
PS. Cats drool when they haven't been loved enough – he might also try to suckle your ear. It's just for comfort and it may or may not stop in future but most likely will decrease. He needs a lot of love, which I'm sure he'll get

Congrats on adopting Sushi! What a beautiful kitty. I am considering adopting soon as my kitty, Cali, passed away last Feb. I have been putting it off….but seeing your wonderful new family member inspires me. Best wishes for a long and happy time together!
