Preview Common Questions

One of our eXtreme Bug Hunters, Milo Linden, has posted a FAQ: Preview Common Questions, that often arise in relation to Second Life Preview versions. I see some of my faves on there—good first pass, check it out! I don't think the main Quality Assurance page gets enough views, either.

General tip for a good bug repro is: if you told it to a friend, would they understand?

Also, that "database snapshot" bit needs to be emphasized a LOT. When there's a Preview, you always get excited Resis who wanna try out the latest and greatest in SL but can't—because they're "too new" (as in, "I just joined Second Life") so… their accounts aren't in the Preview database's records, or "snapshot".

I always recommend getting on Preview, even if you're casual, to get your feet wet.
We're moving towards an increasingly agile development schedule and it's never a pleasant thing to be shocked by changed. A main point of Preview is to ease the transition from one major version to the next, and get a grip on how things work.

A success of the recent Preview, before Second Life 1.10 was released, was that it had some very advanced, but easy-to-use features a lot of non-techy people can care about. Flexiprims (there's that word again) and the new Lighting system really shined on. In other words, fun features that are broadly accessible help entice a lotta people to come on in!
