I LOVE I LOVE how easy it is to get sounds into a musical production! Often, I can (1) buy (2) download (3) apply sample packs, altho I'm rather choosy about what I get. But just the other day, I acquired Evolve Mutations and was using it in minutes. Beyond improv fun, I just wrapped up a lush musical Dream Journal entry where some of the tonal rhythms from Mutations play a supporting role during the epic climax. Here's a preview!
Sure beats the old days of waiting for samples to load off floppy disks — I had a Yamaha A5000 as a kid and it had some cool features (hi5 to anyone who remembers the "Jump" effect), but the long wait times slaughtered my creativity. There's good reason why ideas are likened to "sparks".
Now, even tho the 24-DVD Complete Composers Collection I got from EWQL (will post about those soon here) took a stretch of hours to install, once done, I could load up any sample set in Ableton Live in seconds. I used many of those PLAY sounds here, including cello, guitars, and brief cameos by an "American singer" and a cymbal inspired by the Beatles.
Self-expression is so much fun!
