I'm severely enjoying Prodigy's new single, "Omen". It's both delicately melodic and fiercely aggro, which gives great promise that the forthcoming Invaders Must Die will be more than a return to form. After Synthtopia posted the music video, something deep told me that "Omen" would make a beautiful bootleg baby with Underworld's "Pearl's Girl", released over a decade earlier when Prodigy was nearing Fat of the Land era.
Listen to the full version of my remix which is longer than the edited video above:
Backstory
Back in 1996-1997, I hoped more of my musical heroes would collaborate. Most never did, but if there's one thing Prodigy & Underworld share a gift for, it's extremely catchy riffs. I slept on this notion, and since I'm someone who can't just talk emptily about great ideas but must substantiate — I opened Ableton Live, dragged in both tracks, and proceeded to marry them @ 145 BPM. Some of it was a matter of simple crossfading and adjusting levels, but listen carefully and you'll also notice numerous, cheeky edits which I blazed forth with. This add spice and spark to what was already a couple of tracks just READY TO EXPLODE.
And with these enhancements? UNSTOPPABLE!!!!
Anyway, I'm pleased how my tribute to these greats all came out. I'll be even more pleased if you enjoy it, so let me know what you think.
Art
Ravenelle graciously provided her fresh take on the original cover art, which can be seen at the beginning of the vid. Here's a higher-res version:
How'd I make the video?
The video was a simple matter of using Animoto to do the dynamic transitions between assorted stills from canonical and Flickr sources — given the sheer energy, a mere slideshow wouldn't have worked. You can learn more about Animoto in an earlier post I did, and remember, if you sign up, use code "bfjmnegl" to let Animoto's makers know you learned about it from me. If you upgrade to a yearly All-Access Pass, you'll save $5 ($30 – 5 = $25), and give me 3 extra months so I can keep pushing out fun for you!

Torley, does this mean you're getting back into the electronic music making scene? That would be awesome!
It does indeed. It will be hard finding time + energy, at least for now, but I have an unquenchable passion, and I can already tell it'll be well worth it. Especially with the support of kind words like yours!
yeah its pretty dope dude, nice one! that prodigy track is so fat tho, it'd be nice to hear some slammin raw drum break kickin off it with a more sporadic vocal. the underworld track goes well but almost gets washed out in the mix, be nice to hear it with the underworld accapella and a new beat in the prodigy vein, big meaty and with the time to let the drums breathe a bit. i find underworlds drum loops a bit boring, nice melodies but boring beats, even tho they are fat, they get repetetive
Sweetness! I'm looking forward to future tracks!
@spen: Yeah, it was very challenging to get the beats to mesh at points without overlapping too badly. Selective EQ helped, but sometimes, just like a wall of guitar noise, gotta let the frequency flows. I've never seen a Prodigy or Underworld acappella track (unlike so many rap vocals out there) but that'd be great for the fans.
Underworld's radio edits are tighter and it's more interesting to hear AND watch them live, but yes, when I first heard of them… I was like "OMG REPETITIVE".
@thattagen: I have a Transformers mashup due out soon… maybe tomorrow!
Boo, someone filed a copyright claim on YouTube so the video is gone
@Evalia: Weird thing is the embedded video above works. 2nd weird thing is the various fanvids on YouTube claim "Copyright recordings, music and lyrics reproduced by kind permission of Take Me To The Hospital / Cooking Vinyl" when this clearly doesn't appear to be the case.
YouTube's legal division tends to act first and inform the artist/ask questions a long while after from what I've seen. Ah well.
Been lookin for this song like crazy since hearing it on the radio last night, so happy to have found it!
Even though I wish I could have seen the vid it's awesome that the download link still works.
I am absolutely loving this track too
Shame about the video not working anymore
but at least the full version audio works.
I've just tried to play the original Prodigy track on YouTube to compare it with this… the official (I think?) one by ProdigyChannel, which I watched the other day… and it now says "This video is not available in your country"…
I'm in the UK.
The Prodigy are FROM the UK (as, in fact, it also says on their YouTube channel).
And yet apparently I'm not allowed to watch it, according to YouTube… how does that work?
Thanks Eddy! I don't know what's screwed up there (Prodigy need better management, methinks) and I can still watch the embedded video above. Weird.
Download link doesnt work, so can anyone send me the full mp3 to gatisd2@inbox.lv?
@Naeos What about it doesn't work for you? I clicked it and it opens the MP3. Try right-click and saving it to disk.
