Second Life's 3rd Birthday Is Coming Up!

2006-06-02

I made a forum announcement, "Planning for Second Life's 3rd Birthday has begun!" Contained within are details of the upcoming art show, organized lovingly by Amalthea Blanc.

Yes, thar's right, SL officially turns III on June 23, 2006. You'll want to see our Third Birthday Event page on the SL History Wiki, and if you wanna join in the festivities, please do! You can reach me here (torley@lindenlab.com please for meaningful messages, my IMs get capped so much!), and also give a good word to Tateru Nino, Party Coordinator. ;)

Got ideas? Got action? We want you!

What's particularly involving about all of this is, by putting the process transparently and in the open on that wiki page, we're really letting any Resident come by and suggest things. If you don't have an account on the SL History Wiki yet, sign up for a free one here. I think there's a lot of hunger for history and the wiki is an underused resource: being amenable to collaboration, I bet a lot of people who could—and would—contribute just haven't found it yet. Here's to hoping.

I took a break from my self-imposed exile bashing my head in Second Life's new Groups system to come back to Grid Agni and c-c-check out the graphic design Tateru and Mera Pixel have been putting into signage. Which, of course, is gonna be bolstered in a lot of places.

It looks almost Olympian—kind of reminds me of Calgary '88. Different varieties of signs, including a flexiprim—remember, "flexi" rhymes with "sexy"!—one for different types of venues, and I suggest being amenable to modification to expose the light of diversity. This is Second Life, after all.

Upon greater recollection, I wish the words "SECOND LIFE/THIRD BIRTHDAY" had a warm glow around them to match the trio of torches. Can we do that, Tat?

Fire. It's about being passionate.
