SL Forums suck, film at 11 :P
Posted on: December 2, 2004Alright. FINALLY got Snow Crash from the library. Good stuff, it went off hold and I'll be reading it at last to learn more about this inspiration for Second Life. That's the good news.
And now the bad.
The SL?Forums are saturated with crap. I could point out a few example threads, but oh, I'd have to take a big scoop out of the rancid pie and feed it to you, all stale and moldy.?(WITH NO WATERMELONS!!!) These threads have gone wayyy past their expiration date and they might as well be cows without heads — in other words, D-E-A-D.

It's a (tongue-in-cheek somewhat rolling) dumbass waste of time to engage in such negativity when there's so much pain and suffering in the world.?Heh, if I want negativity,?there are plenty of websites that already exist for that very purpose.?Why make life worse for yourself and others? Why the need to make personal attacks instead of disagreeing firmly but politely with opposing ideas? I don't get it, I don't relate; but I still participate on there, having to dig for the good stuff. Related,?this blog entry of Tanaquil's cracks me up.?Especially this portion:
So what… am I just too chicken to take the risk of being flamed? Perhaps. But why would I take it, for starters? I'm here to have fun, not to enter forum pissing contests in the hopes of showing that I have more cock than poster X or to "prove a point" that doesn't matter in the end because the original intent would already have been lost under the flame.. Or under lame answers, such as this thread where whomever would disagree was answered with a short "Troll. Shut up".
Hehehe. You go, girl! When the drama is monotously repetitive as it is now, that's when moments that might be considered "boring" are in fact quite a sight for sore eyes. Actually, I've been on forums with far worse flaming?in the past… eh, mainly ones having to do with techno music.
But what about moderation? What about? Well, you know what they say about Trekkies and arguments? Pfft that. I'd like to point to TrekBBS.com as a shining example of an efficient, elegant system, including a Moderator Actions?forum.?It's not perfect — duh, does that even need to be said?
Been there, done that. Again. And again. And againagainagain. REDUNDANT!
If I want to hear repetitively looped bullshit, I'll listen to techno music. (Semi-jesting.
)
Anyhoo, back to the main thoughtline, you know what else is really foolish? The fact that the Lindens have their hands full with so many existing problems to deal with, and loading their backs with more burdens is going to take away from their time improving SL. What a damn setback. Oh, that, and this: the SL Forums are only viewable to "community members" who've signed up. I would seriously find it sad if some people were curious about joining SL, were able to view the forums, and then reacted accordingly and predictably. Inworld is much friendlier as an overall experience.
Plus, you get multimedia…?AND WATERMELONS!!!
