SL RAP ATTACK 2007?

Posted on: January 22, 2007

Several weeks ago (Jan. 5 — omigosh, I totally wouldn't cut it as a reporter… all those deadlines!), I was quoted in a colorful article as part of the Second Life newspaper, The AvaStar. Editor-in-chief Regis Braathens nicely asked me awhile back to share, and share I did:

You can see this in The AvaStar - Issue 3. Lotsa fun reading and photos with bold headlines. Surreal? Yes; the more surreal, the better. (Hey, this is coming from me,who learned to read English through issues of The National Enquirer!

I believe it really shows how far we've come that we have entire publications dedicated to online worlds and the people within them. And more importantly in particular, how The AvaStar, just a few issues in, has already established its own identity with column layout, select typography, placement of elements, choice of wording, etc. One of the biggest mistakes a publication can make is to be confused with another, and that's all-too-easy to do in this world of copy-and-paste.

All in all, fun stuff: I love speaking my mind candidly about issues close to my heart, and especially considering how I find the positive aspects of hip-hop culture so beautiful, it's only a matter of time before it emerges in SL in a big way.

I'm still awaiting the first avatar mic freestyle battle — including avatar puppeetering to do all those *makes turntable scratching motions* hand gestures!

I'd love that too. Sadly, most of the live music scene in SL is largely rock and folk focused. The only Second Life MC I know is Witness. Are there any others?

  2. Torley Says:

I didn't even know of Witness before you mentioned, Rik. What's his Resident name? I don't know of any others… I'm hoping for some names to drop!
