SLight flight

2008-08-20

It happens to so many of us: when we’re new to Second Life, we’re wowed by being able to fly. The more we do it, the more we get used to it. And soon enough, we do it without thinking so much.

I found myself reawakened to flight when I used the SpaceNavigator — albeit not fully, because I had messed with the controls and didn’t set them back properly — and went for a trek around TokyoPeninsula. You’ll also see Blossom, who’s doing a different sort of flight using an animation poseball.

Ah, to be avatar and take to the skies!

Flight has probably factored in a lot of 'you know you are on SL too much when…' moments too!

Like when I was in a mall on one of the balconies. Rather than do the sensible thing and walk around it to the Apple store my first thought, of course, was 'oh, just page up and fly over there'. :)

Indeed, the ability to fly was the first thing to truly 'wow' me in SL. I believe I spent more time hovering over Help Island than standing on it. :)

I've had the navigator for close to a year now since moo Money introduced me to it at SLCC 2007. I'm starting to use the navigator more and more now that the SL Client has much better support for it. I also find it easier to just nudge my avatar just a bit in a direction for precision-like positioning.

I find myself using the spacenavigator to fly quite a bit, you can get smoother, finer control once the settings are tweaked a little. Try going into mouselook and flying using the mouse in one hand and the SN in the other, steering with both.

@charles: Will watch your vid soon, thx for sharing!

@Dedric: That makes you an early pioneer!

@Sougent: Control like that almost makes SL sound like an aircraft or submarine. :)

Guys,
I'm Looking to purchase Entertainment Centers or Wall Units For a new apartment complex I've invested in.
Can you folksgive me a good recommendation of where is the top place to buy these? I live in Florida and I heard that the main thing about these Entertainment Centers is the cost of shipping and installation.
Thanks

Jo
