[TIP] Stop JavaScript from resizing windows in Firefox

2009-05-24

I've a love-hate relationship with useful features I find out about too late: I only discovered recently you can selectively disable certain JavaScript functions within Firefox without having to install an add-on. For instance, if you find pages that move/resize windows annoying (I do, as I use multiple tabs within a single window), you can turn them off. Here's how:

  1. Start Firefox.
  2. Go to Tools menu > Options (on Mac, Firefox menu > Preferences) and click the Content icon.
  3. Click Advanced button next to "Enable JavaScript".
  4. Turn off (or on) whatever you want. I have them all disabled — I especially like unchecking "Disable or replace context menus" because I find sites that cripple right-click lame too.
