Second Life needs remarkable marketing & promotion. If you don't care, heed my caution, for this video can induce love surges and compel you to experience inworld for yourself.
And if you're already a Resident, stay tuned for future followup, and share this with a friend who should be in SL with you.
It happens to so many of us: when we’re new to Second Life, we’re wowed by being able to fly. The more we do it, the more we get used to it. And soon enough, we do it without thinking so much.
I found myself reawakened to flight when I used the SpaceNavigator — albeit not fully, because I had messed with the controls and didn’t set them back properly — and went for a trek around TokyoPeninsula. You’ll also see Blossom, who’s doing a different sort of flight using an animation poseball.
I’m not a fan of bloated chrome on widgets intended for embedding in your own webpages: they carry too much of a parasitic personality, looking out of place, and often, taking longer to load. Why bother?
Thankfully, amidst all the ruffle comes PictoBrowser for embedding Flickr sets and such. I originally heard of it from Aleister Kronos, who uses it to great effect on his Second Life explorations blog, and I’ve mentioned PictoBrowser before, but know it deserves its own mini-video tutorial. After all, how can you resist such a compact, elegant layout which has a spark of fun but is otherwise unintrusive and a pleasure to show off?
I love exploring Second Life with my wife. We’ve shared a lot of snapshots along the way, but we’ve been doing more video of our adventures lately. I like to film off-the-cuff stuff when we’re having a good time and post it for your entertainment. Here’s one of Ravenelle’s “Blossom” character gettin’ down to Eric Prydz in a somewhat unlikely locale (thanks AM Radio!):
I think the “pump the camera to the beat” is a telltale signature of mine. Stems out of not easier being able to sync SL visuals to an incoming audio signal, sigh. Also wish media (both still and motion pictures) captured from SL could be auto-tagged (or output easy info to copy-and-paste) with not just SLURL, but creator name, description, etc. Would make it a cinch to share awesome people/places/things instead of having to do so many manual lookups after the fact. Something I’ve wrestled with since 2004.
And as a followup to the Zorba awesomeness — thx to FoxSan and Kevin for turning me onto this, because after getting the gesture made by Piero Padar, we went to this beautifully sculpted, Greco-Roman kinda place, and here’s the appropriate fun we had:
