The Idea City blog also uses the Tiga theme

Posted on: November 23, 2006

I'd like to warmly welcome Joel Greenberg's Idea City blog to the club of Second Life bloggers who use WordPress' Tiga theme — so far, that includes… the two of us. It's a pretty exclusive, but cozy club. If you wanna use Tiga too, go for it. It's really choice and certainly has my recommendation!

Connected to what I wrote the other day about Forseti Svarog's Design Center, Joel's got some shots of it too. And Joel's actually… well, in all honesty, I don't know quite what his position is @ GDS&M, nor what his Second Life name is, but he sounds pretty important to the project.

I just can't get over the excitement that Idea City's been so fun to visit thus far, and that Joel uses Tiga. (I get enough joy outta seeing SLogosphere + Wordpress.) Heck, Joel even has a bizarro, turquoise-watermelon background thing going on:

Idea City blog

Is that a coincidence? Part of me says no, part of me says yes, both parts embrace contradictions and new ideas.

I was looking at Wordpress themes at http://themes.wordpress.net. when I ran into the Tiga theme. I kinda liked it. I've always liked your site, so when I discovered you were running Tiga too, I really dug into it and decided to use it. So yes, your blog was a big influence on my decision to use Tiga.

I'm a Sr. Planner at GSD&M. I track consumer trends in technology. That means, I explain to clients and the agency what people are doing and what kind of "campaigns" we should develop to reach them on the net, their cell phones, SL, game consoles, you name it. If it's uses electricity and has some sort of media interface, then I'm interested in it :)

I had asked Philip Rosedale to speak at the agency in January '06 as part of an internal gaming cultures conference I helped organize. The night before, we walked around downtown Austin talking about Second Life. You can hear what we discussed on my podcast at http://friendstalking.joelandkaren.com (or on iTunes). I had a great time talking to Philip and hope he did, too.

I no longer get asked politely to leave meetings when I bring up SL as an appropriate way to reach customers, so I know we're making progress! ;)

As for Idea City in Second Life, I lead the effort to create it and am lining people up for our lecture series.

You may like to know that I've used your music in my podcast. See the interview with Martha Rogers. Thanks for releasing it under a CC license, which is the same one I use for my podcasts.

JOEL! What a pleasure to have you here, thanx so much for coming and commenting! Fabtastic and glad to hear you tell me more about who you are, and the Tiga connection. That's dandy! Your philosophy is a sound one, I think… I'm always fascinated by social technologies.

I think some of the climate is just "gettingusedtoitness" where the more you repeat Second Life, the more everyday it'll become, the more people get used to it. Now, I certainly don't want it to be boring, but ubiquitosity for me is a powerful, presenceful thing.

I really enjoyed being in Idea City and will come back some more.

Oooo I'll also check out your podcast too! (I often think there should be more Linden podcasts, and I don't just mean Town Halls, as great as they are.)

I like CC a lot, it's simple and easy-to-understand, esp. for artists who've been ripped off by record labels one too many times (not me personally, but I know many).

    You are super-welcome. :D
