The Wheels r Set in Motion

Teaser piccies of two very nice vehicles I like to ride around in Second Life, with new added lighting system. F3010 by Compulsion Overdrive and Roadster by Damanios Thetan.

I've long loved night scenes in video games with a lot of ambience. This would include the opening, middle, and end of Deus Ex.

The hilarious irony here: I currently keep Nighttime Brightness cranked all the way to the right so I can find my way in the dark. But in the soon-to-be-opened Second Life Preview 1.9.1, I've had it all the way to the left so I can attach a watermelon lantern to my head and illuminate the way.

I am hoping someone, or someones makes a kick-arse rave club. And I don't think the new lighting system is scripted yet—but I do hope it will be. Think of police cars with lights that actually have an effect on the environment, and o, returning to that rave club, driving the car into there and bustin' all the candy dandies with their glowsticks and big bunny slippers MUHAHAHAHA… but seriously, timing lights is going to be big biz if it can be pulled off right.

It all goes together, see: make a floppy hat, get some neon streamers, pull out the neo-disco ball, and stock the insides of your filthy warehouse with lotsa detail ('cuz occlusion culling speeds things up if you can't see the outsides).

Or even one of those classic movie monster scenes: pull out the pitchforks and lanterns (light prims), and start walking up the path to the ill-lit castle.

Back when I started SL (September 2004), one of the first places I visited was Rave on the Rocks, primarily made by Sid Street I think. I have old pictures somewhere, but I haven't seen such a club with character after it closed—it just left this gaping hole that hasn't been filed since.

Maybe it's time again.
