Torley reads page 9 of DUNE

Another sandworm shot

I’ve a longtime dream of being a voiceover or spoken word artist, and today, I’ve taken one more step towards making this dream come true: I recorded myself reading page 9 of Dune, which is one of my fave novels. The whole page is a particularly intense exercise in a certain emotion while offering enough variety to be exciting, as you’ll soon hear…

The suspenseful music accompanying this reading is from Toto’s soundtrack to the Dune 1984 film. It happens to be from the corresponding scene. In a fit of synchronicity, the track only required time-stretching of a few seconds to match my performance, and the swells and climaxes come at all the right moments. This spontaneity was clearly meant to be!

On the topic of voiceovers, have you heard of http://www.voiceactingalliance.com ?

You might be interested in that site if you’re into voicing things.

Wow, you’re reading great! Like the music in the background and your voice hehe ‘^_^ :)

Mine’s still half-squeaky that kinda makes my fake american accent a bit too high, like I am “Smilah” ‘^_^ (aka: A woman lol).

Bravo Torley! Well done. It has been so long since seeing the movie (and much longer reading the book) I had forgotten just how well written they are. Thank you for bringing it back alive for me. Continue reading on please {:o)

@Shuffle: I gotta check that out… one step closer…

@Smiley: Thanks, I was very dramatic wasn’t I? I like different kinds of world accents, my English accent is LOLarious tho.

@Tinsel: Thanks much! I was so surprised to find the scene from the movie matched the time it took to read its counterpart in the book. I’m glad I went through with this spontaneity (and I hardly ever regret being spontaneous).
