Torrants #2: Closer to the edits (yes, an AoN reference)
Posted on: April 6, 2008I'm here with another "video interview" (that sounds too formal) and in this episode, I get closer to my heroes and talk really fast. Occasionally, slow. Amidst a field of hyper + special FX: fruits, Justice + Kate Bush, "classic" electronic music, Carl Sagan (and other great explainers), and M dot Strange's We Are the Strange all make an appearance.
Today's topics:
- what is your 2nd-favorite fruit?
- Elvis or Beatles?
- who are your techno influences?
- which music do you listen to now (when you have time)?
- what are you reading right now?
- would you like to talk about the movie we watched?
The title refers to me doing a lot of image overlays and other video trickery with this one; I coulda done more, I coulda done less… in any case, this is done. Future ones may or may not have this level of editing, as for all the fun, it was kinda time-consuming. Special thanx to my wife for being my helper!
I believe this officially marks my embracement of the same field as Ze Frank, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, thewinekone (Tony Huynh), and other obligatory (obligaTorley?) "passionate people who ramble rapidly and use jump cuts to defeat boredom".
Please leave your questions + suggestions for the next Torrants episode in the comments! Thanx for watching!

BT–Did you know he did a bit of hosting/appearances on MTV|2's AMP?
Carl Sagan is everywhere–one could probably go up to someone you'd never met and just go "billions and billions" at them and they'd get it.

If you could change two things about the public education system, what would they be?

I actually had just come across Yahtzee's "Zero Punctuation" reviews for the first time a few days ago. You both can talk fast that's for sure. =P
(And some people complain you talk too fast in tutorials, tut! Hehe)
The funny thing was I knew of him and didn't even know!
I had played "5 Days A Stranger" and "7 Days A Skeptic" and then I went to his personal site after I watched all rants and … it's his work!
That was interesting to find out. I went for playing "6 Days A Sacrifice" right away then hehe.
I have a thing for watching video game reviews for entertainment so every good reviewer I find is some more to keep me busy.
I probably would have checked him out now after your mention if I hadn't found him already. So thank you if I hadn't. ^.~

Oh, Torley, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who repeats DVNO.
In fact, I'm about to go pick up ✝ on vinyl in just a few hours. "Tertiary triple-punch pack" is simply great too.

(In my best Larry King Voice) Sooo…we'll rack your brain a little bit. Speculation. Whats the thing in the briefcase in the movie "Pulp Fiction". That yellow glowing thing everyone wants. Go!

Hahaha thanx for watching!
@Amphithetre: No I didn't! I missed BT hosting AMP, I used to watch that until the show stagnated and showed too many repeat clips. :\ I used to watch Senor Moby's House of Music… which was "OK". And re: Sagan, hahah yes… the plosive "BBillions!" What a unique enunciation.
@Renji: Got a recording?
I'll answer some questions right here because I apologize in advance — I'm so sorry — I may not get to another Torrants for awhile but I did want to reply!
@Brickman1444: I'd:
(1) Encourage greater emphasis on artistic creativity in combination with sciences; sometimes "drama class" and "creative writing" are looked down on unfairly but being intuitive goes hand-in-hand with being logical. But look at all the poor use of grammar on the Internet to the point where it's, well, uncommunicatable. And science fair projects are a lot more fun when you can present them in an aesthetically amazing way!
(2) More emphasis on special classes focused on productivity and life efficiency. I know there's "home ec" and various domestic courses, but they really need to dig more into the nitty-gritty of investing and being wise about resources, whether it's time, money, gas, power, etc. Our youth doesn't learn this enough and it's a shame, because their future suffers for it.
(3) I wonder how much editing Yahtzee does, and how much is improv as opposed to reading from a script. Either way, I like it and think it's cool he's actually made games himself. You're welcome.
@Alexander: Ha, I just came up with that on the spot! I should repeat that more, it sounds like a catchy fighting game combo.
@Bishop: Oh, it'd have to be the same thing as what's in the trunk of Repo Man… alien bodies and a little extraterrestrial civilization! Only they can glow so luminously! =)
DVNO… FOUR CAPITAL LETTERS ROCK ON!!!!

I have another question…Have you ever tried to get your music on a local radio station?
Oh, and my internet name is pronounced with a hard G, as in "that again".
April 20th, 2008 at 10:07 AM PDT
@Thattagen: Yes, and I have before, I've had my music on Canadian national radio, CBC (and some other stations). Sorry for the mispronunciation, and thanks for the correction! Want to make sure I get that right in the future.
