[VIDEO] Tumview makes Tumblr image browsing easy

2009-05-09

I like micro-blog service Tumblr because it offers a quick way to clip creative highlights, share them on Twitter, and save them for later recall. However, there are times where I want to visually navigate through my or another person's Tumblr, since many of them are used as photoblogs. While Tumblr doesn't have built-in functionality to do this and there are styling bugs with its Archive system, Tumview is a convenient tool to achieve exactly that, as I show you in this screencast:

Warning: under Tumview's "Recent" header is a Tumblog someone else recently sifted through. They're often pornographic and don't tell you that beforehand, so if this isn't to your taste, don't click.

Also check out the complementary SmoothTube, which gives you a minimalist way to search YouTube. I haven't found it very useful compared to Tumblr, but it's worth a look.

Incidentally, I had to refilm this vidtut because Internet Explorer crashed on me the first time. Despite all my rage, at least I got a blooper out of it… caught on tape!

The above video tutorials were made with ScreenFlow (Mac-only, it'll be intriguing to see how it fares vs. Camtasia for Mac) and I'm mic'ing with my new Zoom H4n. Hearting the quality so far!
